Looked better than ever when landing a 4-runner handicap chase at Ludlow (2½m, good to firm) on his seasonal reappearance last month, proving 9 lengths too strong for Redbridge Rambler. Now meets the latter on 8 lb worse terms (excluding rider's claim), but strong chance if in a similar mood here.

Third sole start between the flags and landed a Huntingdon bumper on Rules debut in May 2024. Good second in a Kempton handicap on third start over hurdles last season and, though disappointing at Exeter when last seen in March, he appeals as the type to make a better chaser.

Hurdles winner at Stratford last October and best effort since when third of 12 in a Uttoxeter handicap over a trip just south of 3m during the spring. However, followed that with a poor effort and will need to improve for the switch to fences if he's to take this.

Resumed winning ways in 3m handicap hurdle at Ffos Las last month and subsequently opened chase account at the fourth attempt at Ludlow (23.8f, good to soft). However, he was the only one of the three runners to complete there and this will be tougher up 3 lb.

Followed breakthrough success in this sphere at Chepstow in March with a string of below par efforts. Back on track to an extent when chasing home 9-length winner Gris Majeur in a first-time visor at Ludlow, but cheekpieces now refitted and it remains to be seen if he'll build on that.

Forecasts

Copshill Lad (11/8), The Long Point (10/3), Redbridge Rambler (7/2), Gris Majeur (11/2), D'jo Dela Barriere (11/1)

Verdict

Bumper winner THE LONG POINT showed promise over hurdles last term, but he's likely to be seen in a far better light now tackling the larger obstacles. The form of the maiden point in which he was third on his sole start between the flags has worked out really well and the 6-y-o, who represents a yard that has made a good start to the season, could be well treated for this chase debut. Gris Majeur brushed Redbridge Rambler aside at Ludlow last month and he is feared most.
