Temperament isn't all it could be, but he clearly possesses an engine and produced one of his better efforts when runner-up in a Warwick handicap (19f, good) on final run of last season, despite some haphazard jumping. Cheekpieces enlisted for this return/chase debut and needs to up his game.

Found some improvement when opening his account in a 6-runner Sandown novice hurdle (2m, soft) in February. Pulled up at Punchestown on latest start during the spring (since undergone a wind op), but he couldn't be in better hands and mark for this chase/handicap debut looks a fair one.

Successful hurdles debut for Nicky Richards at Ayr last November before struggling in a Grade 2 novice later that month. Back on track when third on return from a break at Kelso in April and it'll be interesting to see how he shapes up in the betting on this chase/stable debut.

£50,000 Irish point recruit who scored on hurdle debut (2½m Carlisle maiden) last November. Failed to make a meaningful impact in 3 subsequent starts, though, and mark for this first run over fences is certainly no gift. Sports first-time cheekpieces/tongue strap.

Fairly useful winner over hurdles but yet to shine following 4 attempts in this sphere, last seen when unseating rider in a Perth handicap chase in April. Opposable.

Got back on track when winning a five-runner C&D handicap chase in April, but followed that with a poor display (pulled up) returned to hurdles at Hexham the following month. Claims if at his best, but up-and-down profile tempers enthusiasm somewhat.

All-the-way winner of handicap hurdles at Taunton (19f, soft) and Warwick (2m, good) last spring. Hasn't been able to dominate in 2 subsequent starts, including on return from a break at Perth, and others make more appeal on this occasion.

Runner-up in 4-runner Exeter handicap on sole previous run over fences last December. Also placed 3 times over hurdles last season, finishing a creditable third of 8 at Aintree (2½m, good to firm) when last seen in May, and she's open to improvement back in this sphere.

Made it 2-2 at Uttoxeter when making all in a handicap hurdle there (2½m, good to soft) on latest run in June. 6 lb higher now switched to fences and will need to improve in order to make a successful start in this sphere.

Successful reappearance last term in a Chepstow handicap hurdle and posted some reasonable efforts in defeat since, not least when mid-field in a mares' Class 2 contest at Cheltenham during the spring. Has undergone a wind op ahead of this return/chase debut and she's another who needs to improve.

Gained reward for his consistency when opening his account in 11-runner maiden hurdle at Sedgefield (19.8f, soft) in February. Failed to fire in a handicap at Kelso next time, but it would be no surprise were this former point winner to get back on track now switched to fences.

Bowenspark (10/3), Moonshine Man (5/1), Holeshot (11/2), Molto Bene (6/1), High Treason (6/1), Joining Force (6/1), Saracen Beau (13/2), Ridin Solo (11/1), Windsurfer (11/1), Tradecraft (11/1), Sunday Soldier (12/1), Quick Sharpener (18/1), Aboutdamntime (20/1), Paddy O'Mahler (20/1)

Verdict

SUNDAY SOLDIER and Moonshine Man can both be expected to build on their encouraging chase debuts and while the latter has the advantage of a recent run under his belt, it's Sunday Soldier who shades preference. She did well to get as close as she did to the winner on her sole run in this sphere last December and the 7-y-o put in a good shift over hurdles at Aintree when last seen during the spring. Joining Force is third choice, with Saracen Beau and Tradecraft also shortlisted.
