€130,000 yearling, New Bay gelding. Runner-up on debut (subsequent winner back in third) and confirmed that promise to open his account in a 14-runner novice at Windsor (8.1f, good) 18 days ago, won easily by 4 lengths from Canopus. Should improve and strong claims to follow up under a penalty.

Down the field in 2 similar events in May/June 2024. Could be one for handicaps back over middle-distances and market should prove informative with yard also saddling newcomer Wesam.

Exceed And Excel gelding. Half-brother to 1½m winner Foxlight. Dam, 11.5f winner, half-sister to very smart winner up to 1m Flotilla and smart 1½m winner Big Five out of useful 2-y-o 7f/1m winner Louvain. Belated debut but makes plenty of appeal on paper for powerful connections.

170,000 gns yearling, Australia gelding. Down the field in a warm Kempton maiden on debut but caught the eye when 18/1 second behind Livonian at Windsor, making good late headway under hands-and-heels riding. Open to improvement and interesting to see if there's market confidence behind him.

Forecasts

Wesam (5/4), Livonian (5/4), Hazem (11/1), Canopus (12/1), Surprise Rally (16/1)

Verdict

LIVONIAN shaped well when second in a strong all-weather maiden on debut and having easily got off the mark at Windsor earlier this month, he can follow up under a penalty. Canopus caught the eye when second under a hands-and-heels ride in the same Windsor maiden and any market confidence would be significant, while Surprise Rally may do best of the pair of interesting newcomers.
