Fair winning hurdler for Gordon Elliott and showed plenty of ability remained on stable debut (after 21 months off) when third of 6 in handicap hurdle at Market Rasen (16.6f, heavy) 21 days ago. Step up in trip looks the way to go and has a chance back down in grade if building on previous effort.

Signs of ability for Paul Webber prior to making a mockery of a modest mark on stable debut at this course (15.8f) in June. Enhanced his form (again well-backed) when runner-up over the same C&D earlier this month, shaping as though this longer trip may suit. Remains one to be interested in.

Pulled up in handicap hurdle (11/2) at Market Rasen (20.6f, heavy) 21 days ago won by Malangen, losing touch early final circuit and reported to have had a breathing problem. Visor on first time with tongue strap back on but has plenty to prove.

Confirmed solid form of previous race when landing 9-runner handicap hurdle at Kelso in May. Still in good heart over a slightly longer trip when creditable third of 7 in handicap hurdle at Bangor (19.6f, good to firm) 36 days ago. Should give his running but this looks very competitive.

Pulled-up on last hurdles start at this track in January. Proved his small yard with a first winner under Rules since 1994 when landing an 8-runner handicap chase at Worcester (23f, good to soft, 10/1) 10 days ago. Remains to be seen if he can back that up over hurdles.

Ex-Irish hurdler who made a promising start for current yard when runner-up in 2m Bangor maiden. Hasn't bettered that in subsequent starts, faring no better reverted to positive tactics upped in trip at Newton Abbot (18.5f) 13 days ago. Likely to fall short again.

Broke blood vessel when pulled up in novice hurdle at Sedgefield (19.8f, soft, 66/1), tailing off quickly early final circuit. Makes handicap hurdle debut following 6 months off but has shown precious little in two starts for current connections.

Veteran capitalised on a career-low mark, handling testing conditions better than his rivals when making-all to land 9-runner handicap hurdle at Market Rasen (20.6f, heavy) 21 days ago, unchallenged. Likely to face some competition for the lead here and has more to do off an 8 lb higher mark.

Hasn't been long with current connections and was much improved with a tongue strap refitted (retained) when winning a 7-runner handicap chase at Newton Abbot (21f, good to soft, 11/10) 7 days ago, cruising clear from the home turn. Likely very well-treated racing off same mark back over hurdles.

Maiden again ran badly when eleventh of 13 in handicap chase at Worcester (20f, good, 14/1) 25 days ago. Cheekpieces on for first time for handicap hurdle debut but has loads of improvement to find on recent form.

Forecasts

Crystal Mer (6/5), La Quarite (5/4), Sixty Plus (9/4), Malangen (10/1), Spartan Warrior (11/1), Our Laura B (11/1), Grillon De Monty (22/1), Nottodaybobo (28/1), Jumping Jupiter (28/1), Old Bridge (50/1), King Of The Hill (50/1), Lazy Bones (125/1)

Verdict

A strong race for the grade at this time of year and it should be truly-run. LA QUARITE bolted up over fences at Newton Abbot 7 days ago and looks very well-treated racing off the same mark back over hurdles. He's preferred to Crystal Mer who improved again when runner-up here earlier this month and shaped as though there may be more to come over this longer trip, while hat-trick seeking Sixty Plus could well continue his rapid progression for the remarkable James Owen stable.
