Havana Grey colt who created a good impression when scoring on his 5f Newmarket debut in April 2024. Tailed off at pattern level on both subsequent starts that summer. However, back on track following 12 months off when third of 7 in handicap at Windsor (7/1) 9 days ago. Could build on that.

Won at Hamilton (5/2) in May and placed once in three subsequent starts. Sixth of 10 in handicap at Chester (17/2) 11 days ago, fading after pressing the leader. Steps up further in trip now and he needs to get back on track.

Successful on second of 3 starts in maidens at Catterick (7f) in May and stepped up again when close-up fifth of 8 on handicap debut at Windsor (8.1f) 9 days ago, unlucky not to finish closer having been denied a run from 2f out. Clearly on a workable mark and he's one to be interested in.

Much improved from debut when off the mark in a Pontefract novice (6f) last September before a respectable third under a penalty at York (6f) a month later. However, offered little after 9 months off when last of 11 in handicap at Newmarket (66/1) 27 days ago on first start for new yard.

Left debut form behind when off the mark in a heavy ground maiden at Nottingham (5f) last spring. However, finished well held on return when ninth of 11 in novice at Kempton (6f, 33/1) 93 days ago, so he'll need to step up plenty on that returned to turf on handicap debut.

Lightly-raced maiden who settled much better than on his previous start when finishing third of 10 in handicap at Chepstow (7f) last month. Remains unexposed at this trip and he's a live each-way player again with a repeat.

Forecasts

Watch And Shoot (10/11), Lord Roxby (10/3), Excellent Echo (5/1), Arran (9/1), Prodigal Son (12/1), Chilly Breeze (16/1), Rogue Invader (16/1), Apache Green (22/1)

Verdict

WATCH AND SHOOT looked unlucky not to finish closer at the very least when fifth on handicap debut at Windsor (1m) 9 days ago, meeting with trouble on several occasions. He's evidently on a workable mark on that evidence and can confirm the promise of that run. Arran's latest Windsor third gives him something to build on. Rogue Invader and Excellent Echo aren't discounted either.
