Opened chase account on third start for current yard at Catterick in December and back in winners circle at Huntingdon in January, despite tendency to jump left. However, he's developed an all-or-nothing profile, and he ran a shocker back at latter course last month. Hard to trust.

Point/hurdles winner who made a promising start switched to fences when second of 6 in 2m4f Southwell handicap in November. Has failed to build on that both subsequent outings (twice a beaten favourite) but it remains early days. Considered returning from a 2-month break.

Runner-up sole start in Irish points and fair form when reaching the frame in novice hurdles at Wetherby and Ffos Las. Made an encouraging start on handicap/chase debut when fourth at Newcastle but spoilt his chance at Ffos Las with notable blunders since. Had a wind op and may yet do better.

Managed to get off the mark with Cannon taking over in the saddle in 6-runner handicap chase at this course (19.5f, good to soft) 11 days ago. 3 lb higher here and would be no certainty to be in the same form. Cheekpieces applied.

Off the mark in handicap hurdle at Plumpton (20.5f) in April 2022. However, after an absence of nearly 3 years he hasn't offered much in 3 starts this season (including twice over the larger obstacles). Looks an easy swerve.

Forecasts

Davidoc (7/4), Diplomatic Ash (15/8), A Moments Madness (10/3), Constant Friday (10/1), Flamelco (12/1)

Verdict

A tricky puzzle to solve despite the small field but preference is for A MOMENTS MADNESS, who was unable to build on a promising chasing debut last time, but he's had a wind operation since last seen and Warren Greatrex's 6-y-o remains open to improvement in this sphere. Davidoc heads up the dangers returning from a 2-month break, with last-time-out winner Diplomatic Ash rounding off the shortlist.
