Grade 2 Cheltenham novice hurdle winner last term and, following a couple of disappointing runs over fences, he got back on track returned to this sphere when runner-up in 25f Huntingdon handicap with cheekpieces enlisted (discarded here) recently. Not sure that this drop back in trip will be ideal.

Won 2 of his first 4 starts over fences last term but ended that campaign on a downer and hasn't shown much spark in handicap chases at Kempton and Ascot this time round. However, wouldn't be without a chance should this switch back to hurdles/first-time blinkers help spark a return to form.

Bounced back to best with cheekpieces refitted when gamely landing 4-runner handicap hurdle at Newbury (24.2f, good to soft) at the start of November. Has followed that with a couple of creditable efforts in defeat and each-way claims off the same mark here.

Very useful stayer on the Flat who has completed simple tasks returned to this sphere, landing small-field maiden/novice contests at Musselburgh/Catterick with loads in hand. Continued the good work when a solid second on the level last month and further progress likely back hurdling.

Useful handicap hurdler/chaser but lightly raced in recent seasons and there has been little to shout about in his 3 runs since returning from a lengthy absence in November. Now tried in a visor.

Scored at Cartmel in July 2023 and followed that with several creditable efforts in defeat, including when fourth in an 8-runner Southwell handicap (15.8f, heavy) on New Year's Day. Still, he looks vulnerable from a win point of view.

Winner of mares' novice at Catterick last winter and added to that when getting on top in the shadow of the post in an Aintree handicap (2½m, soft) on Boxing Day. More needed 4 lb but she should nevertheless make her presence felt.

Bumper winner who was fair over hurdles for Nicky Henderson. Safely held first 3 starts for new yard in handicap chases but returned to form back hurdling when third of 7 in first-time cheekpieces over this C&D recently and, down another 2 lb, he's not without hope.

With improvement on the cards now pitched into a handicap in this sphere, WISE EAGLE looks the way to go. American Sniper performed with credit when third at Wetherby last time and he is feared most back down in trip here, while Bold Reaction is also shortlisted and Persian Time would be a threat if able to bounce back now returned to this sphere. Shanagh Bob remains lightly-raced but this drop back in trip is of dubious benefit.
