Fairly useful hurdler who tasted success on first 2 starts over fences last term. Back on the up since returning to action following a second wind op in November, finding one too good at Haydock prior to scoring in good style over this C&D (good to soft) 18 days ago. Big player despite 10 lb rise.

Has his quirks but more than fair share of ability, too, left clear when successful at Sandown in February. Well held at the Cheltenham Festival on final start for Ben Pauling, though, and there have been very few positives to take from his 2 runs for new yard this season.

Bookended his novice campaign over hurdles with victories at Ayr, latterly a 2m handicap in April. Perfect start in this sphere when landing 5-runner handicap chase at Wetherby during the autumn but he checked out rather tamely at Cheltenham next time and now has a point to prove.

Both wins over fences gained at Kempton, including when making all over 2¼m (good to soft) on return in October. Didn't do a great deal wrong when third off this 4 lb higher mark at the same course last month and should make his presence felt.

Lightly-raced 5-y-o who didn't do much wrong in handful of runs over hurdles and perfect start in this sphere when making all at Chepstow (2m, good to soft) last month. That was his first run for 11 months, so he's entitled to come on for it and this 5 lb higher mark is unlikely to be an issue.

Forecasts

General Medrano (11/8), Javert Allen (9/5), Primoz (9/2), Bourbali (8/1), Harper's Brook (22/1)

Verdict

JAVERT ALLEN looked a natural over fences on his first run for the best part of a year at Chepstow and, with the promise of better to come from this lightly-raced 5-y-o, he is taken to make it 2-2 in this sphere. General Medrano won as he liked over C&D recently and a 10 lb rise may not be enough to prevent another bold show from Emma Lavelle's representative. Bourbali is also likely to be on the premises.
