Better effort in bumpers when fourth at Stratford in July but the form is only modest. Outsider on hurdle debut.

Showed some ability in a bumper for Chris Gordon in February and hinted at aptitude for hurdling having had a breathing operation during his 9 months off when a well-beaten fourth of 10 in novice at Ffos Las (2m, good to soft) 19 days ago. Big step forward needed to get heavily involved, though.

Has shown promise when reaching the frame in a Chepstow bumper and 2m Ffos Las novice hurdle just under a year apart. Open to progress.

€90,000 half-brother to fair 2½m hurdle winner Miss Oreo. His top stable has a very good record in this race. Market confidence could prove significant.

Made a very promising start to his career in bumpers in the spring, winning convincingly at Warwick before an excellent third of 18 in Aintree Grade 2. Good hurdle prospect.

Placed last 2 of 3 outings in Irish points (latest Apr 27). The betting should help guide to expectations now hurdling.

Never dangerous when a remote fourth in 2m Chepstow maiden hurdle on debut 23 days ago. Likely to do better at some point but probably best to look elsewhere this time.

Mount Nelson gelding who showed promise when runner-up in a pair of bumpers in the mud earlier in the year. Should have a future over jumps but this looks a tough starting point.

2-2 in bumpers last season, looking a very promising sort for hurdles when seeing off 19 rivals in a valuable event here for second win. £660,000 purchase for new owners after, staying with Paul Nicholls. Likely to have a big say.

Picked up for £31,000 after winning one of his 3 point starts. Starts out over hurdles in a warm-looking race and a watching brief is advised unless the betting hints otherwise.

Forecasts

Regent's Stroll (4/11), Good And Clever (4/1), Ferando (7/1), Peacenik (16/1), Don't Wind Me Up (18/1), Rip Wheeler (50/1), Mon Kaplais (100/1), Jorebel (100/1), Chesh (125/1), Beaufort Breeze (150/1), A Good Yomp (250/1)

Verdict

Traditionally a strong maiden hurdle and this looks another good renewal. REGENT'S STROLL gets the nod to make a successful start to his hurdle career back at the scene of his win in a valuable bumper in the spring. Good And Clever also brings good bumper form and rates a threat for in-form Warren Greatrex. Nicky Henderson has introduced a few top notchers in this over the years so market support for his newcomer Ferando would also bring him into the reckoning.
