Weatherbys & Birdie Calendars Handicap Hurdle

Off time: 16:10 | Winning time: 5m 6.55s

Recoded^t²⁷

Age: 6| Weight: 11-12| J: Paul O'Brien| T: Harry Derham| OR: 107| BF

7/4

Fairly useful form when placed in a pair of bumpers. Yet to match that over hurdles but this is just his second outing for a shrewd stable and his opening mark is potentially lenient.

Form: 3/320-2

Poncho²²

Age: 6| Weight: 11-12| J: N F Houlihan| T: G & J Moore| OR: 107| C

20/1

Course novice winner in January 2023 but has yet to make an impact in handicaps. Ran well on the Flat last time but jumping is a concern in this sphere.

Form: 16F/F7-4

Bashful Boy^p²³

Age: 8| Weight: 11-7| J: Jack Tudor| T: D Pipe| OR: 102

4/1

Fair handicap hurdler who ran well in the Cesarewitch last time and returns to this sphere on an appealing mark. Respected.

Form: 04-7044

Ede'iffs Rock²¹

Age: 6| Weight: 11-4| J: Harry Kimber| T: W G M Turner| OR: 99| D

10/1

Consistent sort who opened her account after a frustrating run of placed efforts in 13-runner handicap at Leicester (20.5f, heavy) in January. Arrives on the back of a creditable effort at Hereford, so could get involved.

Form: 3315-44

Highway One O Five^p1⁴¹

Age: 5| Weight: 11-1| J: Rex Dingle| T: C Gordon| OR: 96

11/1

In good order towards the end of last season and should strip fitter for his return at Fontwell. Looks a player with cheekpieces tried for the first time.

Form: 95625-3

Macari⁹

Age: 4| Weight: 10-13| J: M Goldstein| T: Miss S West| OR: 95| C

5/2

Much improved when winning here in April and returned to form at Stratford in July. Arrives on the back of success on the Flat, so well worthy of consideration.

Form: 7217-P4

Birdman Bob^p¹⁴

Age: 7| Weight: 10-10| J: Caoilin Quinn⁽³⁾| T: A Irvine| OR: 91| C

22/1

Course winner who ended last season in form and is likely to strip fitter for his return here, so not ruled out back up in trip.

Form: 2U2P6-8

Non-Runners

Batwomen³¹

Weight: 12-0| Age: 6

Forecasts

Recoded (7/4), Macari (5/2), Batwomen (4/1), Bashful Boy (4/1), Ted's Friend (7/1), Ede'iffs Rock (10/1), Highway One O Five (11/1), Poncho (20/1), Birdman Bob (22/1)

BATWOMEN left previous efforts behind when seeing off Ted's Friend to make a successful handicap debut at Fontwelll last time and, with more to come, she's worth a chance to go in again. Recoded is an obvious danger and Highway One O Five is of interest in first-time headgear.
