Signs of ability in maiden/novice company and has predictably raised his game switched to handicaps the last twice, latterly finishing third of 13 with Alice Stevens aboard at Chepstow (19.4f, good to soft) in April. Drop back in trip could be a good move and he's a must for the shortlist.

Latest success was gained off 2 lb higher mark at Newton Abbot last September and shaped as though his turn may again be near when placed in handicaps at that course and over 18.7f here in July. Latest effort back at Newton Abbot was poor (reportedly lost his action) but fighting chance if on-song.

The vote goes to FRESH SPECULATION, who shaped as though the drop back to this trip would be in his favour when third at Chepstow on his final appearance of last season. He resumes on the same mark and, with just a handful of runs under his belt, this 6-y-o's best days are surely still ahead of him. One Last Glance is second choice ahead of potential improver Mount Washington, while Good Impression will also be a threat if he puts his best foot forward.
