Made a winning chase debut at Catterick in November 2022 and back on track when scoring in 5-runner contest at Market Rasen last summer. Had little go right when well beaten at Cheltenham back in October and this is presumably a pipe opener returning over the smaller obstacles.

Ran well after 9 months off, especially as he was checked when coming with a threatening effort when third of 7 in handicap at Hexham (20.1f, good) just under 8 weeks ago. That will have blown away any cobwebs, so he needs considering.

Won bumper and maiden hurdle on first 2 starts but has drawn a blank since. Back to best when second of 5 in handicap at Market Rasen (16.6f, good) a couple of months ago, so he's one to keep an eye on having been nudged up 2 lb.

Produced a career best when doubling his chase tally at Musselburgh in November and best effort since when an eye-catching fourth at Ayr (20.5f) in the spring. Back over hurdles here and is potentially well handicapped, but he isn't seeing his races out at present. Yard in red-hot form.

Has more poor runs than good to his name of late but having been off 11 weeks and left Mrs Jane Williams (£7,000), took a step back in the right direction without headgear from a reduced mark when second of 8 at Stratford last month. Fancied to go close with Hughes taking over.

Useful hurdler at best for Fergal O'Brien, winning 4 times from 6 starts in the 2022/23 campaign. However, absent for 14 months subsequently and yet to fire for present stable. Handicapper giving him further respite at least.

Fairly useful form on the Flat in Ireland and dual hurdles winner for Harry Derham, the second success coming in a Hereford handicap in February. Recent efforts have been at least respectable but was well held refitted in cheekpieces on debut for new yard at Cartmel last month.

Better for return when respectable seventh of 13 in handicap chase at Uttoxeter in June but struggling from circuit out then unseating rider 3 out at Stratford (17f, good) 3 weeks later. Returns to hurdling from a much lower mark but probably best watched at present.

Fair hurdler who got fully back on track when second of 12 in novice hurdle at this C&D (good to firm) just over 6 weeks ago. Has finished out of the placings only once over hurdles and this switch to handicaps may well eke out that bit extra.

Got off the mark in impressive style at Kelso (21f) last autumn but has disappointed in his 3 outings since. Can only be watched for the time being.

Maiden up to 2m on Flat who showed the benefit of a recent run in that sphere when winning at this track in July, suited by the less testing conditions. Presumably found the race coming too soon at Cartmel 8 days later, so fancied to be in the shake-up back here from 3 lb higher.

Runner-up twice from 3 starts in bumpers and has made a promising start over hurdles, not quite as well placed as the front pair when the sprint began when third at Market Rasen (20.6f, good to firm) just under 6 weeks ago. One to consider now handicapping.

Dual bumper winner for Emmet Mullins and again over hurdles at Market Rasen (2m) for Mark Walford early last season. Sold for £2,000 and yet to make an impact in 4 outings for this yard, so can only be watched.

4-time course winner who opened his account for the season at Hexham (16.2f) in June and has continued in good heart since, making a bold bid from the front when third over C&D on penultimate start. Not quite so good last time, but he's the type to bounce back quickly.

Veteran who usually races over fences and won over C&D 12 months ago. Managed to string 2 good efforts together for once when scoring at Cartmel (17.3f, good to firm) 4 weeks ago and has a rare start over hurdles. Interesting despite being 6 lb out of the weights.

Forecasts

Honneur D'Ajonc (4/1), Invictus World (13/2), Bishop Hill (13/2), Malangen (7/1), Quaresome (8/1), Beau Della (9/1), Half Shot (12/1), Trailblazer (14/1), Accidental Rebel (14/1), Cracking Destiny (14/1), Herewegohoney (16/1), Sword Of Fate (16/1), Fourofakind (22/1), Kilbrainy (66/1), Carrarea (100/1)

Verdict

Cases can be made for a number of these, but preference is for TRAILBLAZER, who was a winner here last month and having presumably found the race coming too soon at Cartmel last time, Adam Nicol's 5-y-o is fancied to regain the winning thread. Honneur d'Ajonc took a step back in the right direction for his new yard last month, so he heads up the dangers, with Beau Della and Invictus World rounding off the shortlist.
