Winner of three of his 10 hurdles starts and boasts an even better strike rate over fences (4-7). Solid second in 2m Uttoxeter handicap chase last time and will be a danger to all if reproducing that level of form back in this sphere off an 8 lb lower mark.

In fine form last spring, bagging a Cheltenham handicap in good style prior to following-up in the Swinton at Haydock. Performed with credit back at Prestbury Park following break in October and ran as well as could have been expected in Grade 1 company next time. Major player back in a handicap.

Fairly useful hurdler who bagged a 20.6f handicap on latest start in this sphere last June (also won 3 times on the Flat in what was a productive 2023). At least respectable efforts on the level in recent months and he could be a threat back hurdling with conditions in his favour.

Winner of 2m handicaps at Doncaster and Taunton on first 2 starts following a break during the winter. Ran poorly when bidding for the hat-trick at Kelso and while his subsequent sixth in a big-field at Aintree was more like it, he's likely to find this too competitive.

Raised his game when accounting for 10 rivals in the 2022 renewal of this race. Last year was pretty much a write-off but all of his ability is clearly still intact judged on his reappearance fourth at Newton Abbot and he's a serious player off the same mark with cheekpieces refitted.

Prolific since joining present stable, successful 5 times during 2023 and confirmed he's at the top of his game when going in again over hurdles at Newton Abbot (16.8f, good) 15 days ago. However, more on his plate up 5 lb in this stronger race and he was no match for Maxcel at Bangor last month.

Successful twice last year, including a C&D novice, and improved when taking a Grade 2 mares' handicap back from a break at Newbury (2½m, good to soft) in March. Wasn't disgraced when fifth back here over 20.6f last time and dropping back in trip no bad thing, but she looks vulnerable all the same.

Clearly been hard to train but still has time on his side and has returned to progressive and winning ways the last twice, brushing Feel The Pinch aside at Bangor before edging out Mostly Sunny in what turned into a duel at Uttoxeter (15.8f, good to soft). This demands a new personal best.

Dual handicap winner at Bangor (both 16.7f) last year, and probably ran as well as he ever has when a close third at Worcester (2m, good) on first start following a wind op/8-month break. Wouldn't be without an each-way chance if able to build on that encouraging display here.

Cracking third to Black Poppy in the Swinton at Haydock last May and has performed with credit on 2 of his 3 starts since returning to action in March, most recently finishing second off this mark at Stratford (16.3f, good to soft). Still, others make more appeal from a win point of view.

Thrived over hurdles last autumn before struggling badly in a Grade 2 Cheltenham novice. Largely creditable efforts on the Flat since and won't be found wanting fitness-wise returned to this sphere for last year's winning trainer-jockey combination. However, a clear career-best is needed.

Fairly useful performer on Flat who notched second success over hurdles (and made it 2-2 over this C&D) when landing a 5-runner handicap (good) last month. 3 lb rise fair enough but this is a much deeper race.

Just touched off by Pisgah Pike in this race in 2022 and again found just one too good 12 months ago when chasing home Too Friendly off a 6 lb higher mark. Runner-up in another competitive C&D handicap in September and while he hasn't been in the same form since, he's dangerous to discount.

Got back on the up when winning for the fourth time over hurdles in mares handicap at Ludlow (15.8f, heavy) in December. Hasn't disgraced herself since and now back down to the mark off which she scored at Ludlow, but she's likely to find a few too good nonetheless.

Three-time winner on the Flat and has taken well to hurdles, landing the odds in a Huntingdon maiden in May before routing the opposition in a handicap at Southwell the following month. Clear of the rest when beaten a whisker by Maxcel last time and this unexposed 5-y-o has to be of interest.

Fair maiden on the Flat for Richard Hannon and has improved with each of his 4 starts over hurdles, decisive winner of a Ffos Las handicap (2m, good) in May. Found just one too good on the level at Carlisle the following month and he could have more to offer back in this sphere.

33/1
Consistent Flat/hurdles winner who cemented positive start over fences when second of 7 in handicap chase at Stratford (19.4f, good) 18 days ago. However, he may prove vulnerable back in this sphere and yard saddles a more appealing candidate in Manuelito.

Forecasts

Kihavah (7/2), Manuelito (13/2), Mostly Sunny (15/2), Black Poppy (9/1), Chaos Control (10/1), Castel Gandolfo (11/1), Takeit Easy (14/1), Maxcel (14/1), Rewired (16/1), Fringill Dike (18/1), Magical Maggie (20/1), Pisgah Pike (20/1), All The Glory (22/1), Feel The Pinch (22/1), Enthused (25/1), Hidalgo De L'isle (33/1), Nibras Gold (33/1)

Verdict

A typically competitive renewal of this valuable contest and PISGAH PIKE could be the answer. He was a game winner of this off 4 lb higher two years ago and, having missed the majority of 2023, he made a most encouraging return to action at Newton Abbot last month. The 4-y-o Manuelito and the similarly unexposed Mostly Sunny are both feared greatly, along with Black Poppy, while a case can also be made for Kihavah and don't rule out a another bold show in this race from Castel Gandolfo.
