Left soft-ground Leicester debut run well behind when winning 7f Kempton novice in October. Steps up in trip on return but his smart dam was a 1½m winner so he's bred for further. Capable of better this year.

€270,000 Night of Thunder colt much improved from debut when winning Nottingham event over this trip last month, scoring a shade snugly. Highly likely there's even better to come.

200,000 gns yearling, Wootton Bassett colt. Half-brother to 3 winners, including smart winner up to 1½m Rockemperor. 10/3, very promising start when winning Newbury maiden over this trip 5 weeks ago, quickening clear with a bit in hand. Could be smart.

Far more clued up than on sole start at 2 yrs and duly proved a different proposition as he won 8.6f Wolverhampton novice on return 8 weeks ago, coming clear of a subsequent progressive winner. Can improve further.

Lope De Vega colt. Half-brother to several winners, including winner up to 1¼m Epictetus and winner up to 1m Jumbly, both smart, and useful winner up to 1m Bullfinch. Certainly the part on paper but starts out against a number of promising winners.

Sea The Moon gelding. Half-brother to 7f-11.6f winner Evangelist and 1¾m/15f winner Yangtze, both useful. Gelded and showed very little on debut at Newmarket (1m) for the Charlton yard in October.

Showed much more than on debut but was no match for a useful sort when second over this trip at Lingfield a fortnight ago. One for handicaps.

Forecasts

Rhetorical (11/10), Ciro Di Marzio (7/2), Specialisation (6/1), Burrito (7/1), More Thunder (7/1), Salik (50/1), Different Drum (150/1)

Verdict

RHETORICAL looked a smart prospect when easily seeing off a subsequent winner on debut at Newbury 5 weeks ago and can make it 2-2 before having his sights raised. This has the look of a good contest for the grade though, with fellow last-time-out winners Specialisation, More Thunder and Ciro di Marzio all likely to improve also.
