Uttoxeter Ladies Day 26th July Mares' Novices' Handicap Hurdle

Off time: 19:10 | Winning time: 6m 24.50s

Faha Belle²³

Age: 6| Weight: 11-12| J: J J Burke| T: F O'Brien| OR: 93

15/2

Irish point winner who posted his best effort yet over hurdles when runner-up at Market Rasen (20.6f, good) last month, despite an error-strewn round. Stepping back up in trip will be no bad thing and claims granted a cleaner round of jumping.

Form: R8448-2

Killybegs Jet Lady^t³⁸

Age: 7| Weight: 11-12| J: Alan Doyle⁽⁵⁾| T: Miss Lucinda V Russell| OR: 93

14/1

Successful on last of 4 starts in Irish points and bettered previous exploits in this sphere when third in a 13-runner Kelso novice (21f, good). May do better still now faced with a stiffer test on this handicap debut.

Form: 21/9P7-3

Turkey And Ham^t³⁰

Age: 6| Weight: 11-5| J: Mr O McGill⁽⁷⁾| T: N C Kelly| OR: 86

10/1

Lightly-raced maiden who appeared to take a step forward when fourth at Perth (20.2f, good to soft) last August. Failed to build on that on return at Clonmel but that was following a 10-month absence, so it's reasonable to expect her to come on for the run.

Form: 67/904-0

Giulietta²^{(ex 7)}

Age: 7| Weight: 11-12| J: Harry Skelton| T: D Skelton| OR: 86| BF

8/15

Career best when winning 11-runner handicap hurdle (7/2) at Worcester (20f, good to soft) 2 days ago, easing clear. Carries penalty. Stands out on form.

Form: 2P32-21

Darsi's Darling²³

Age: 8| Weight: 11-3| J: Theo Gillard| T: J Parkinson & S Smith| OR: 84

40/1

Shaped well on the first of her 2 starts in bumpers but there hasn't been much to shout about in terms of what she's achieved over hurdles to date.

Form: 6F3/P-08

Oneforthefairgreen^p1²⁰

Age: 6| Weight: 11-0| J: S Bowen| T: M Keighley| OR: 81

6/1

Fair form on 2 of her 4 starts in bumpers in Ireland and has shown ability in 2½m mares' maiden/novice events the last twice, latterly at this venue. Cheekpieces enlisted for this handicap bow and she shapes as though this stiffer test will be right up her street.

Form: 72PP-33

Misting¹⁶

Age: 5| Weight: 11-0| J: J M Quinlan| T: N B King| OR: 81

40/1

Little promise in bumpers and similar story over hurdles so far. Improvement needed now upped in trip for this handicap debut.

Form: 00-657

Clover Pass¹⁴

Age: 7| Weight: 10-6| J: David Bass| T: A Ralph| OR: 73

40/1

Half-sister to fairly useful hurdler and while she's shown little in the way of promise herself in bumpers/over hurdles so far, it's entirely possible that she will raise her game now upped in trip for this handicap debut.

Form: 38/P-05

Betty's Belle^p³⁴

Age: 7| Weight: 10-6| J: Chris Ward⁽³⁾| T: Tracey Leeson| OR: 73

33/1

Bumper winner who was runner-up twice in handicaps for Ben Pauling last summer, including over this C&D. However, she has largely struggled since joining present yard and is now 0-15 over hurdles.

Form: 863P6-5

Conniegetaway²⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 10-6| J: Tabitha Worsley⁽³⁾| T: J Coulson| OR: 73

50/1

Modest form shown in 3 bumpers and she's one of several for whom hopes here are pinned on the step up in trip/switch to handicap company sparking improvement.

Form: 25FP-92

Bean Norty^t1¹⁷⁹

Age: 8| Weight: 10-3| J: J Kington| T: R Menzies| OR: 70

33/1

Little impact in 4 starts for Tom Lacey and she was beaten a long way starting out for this yard at Catterick when last seen in December. Tongue strap applied.

Form: 609/90-

Non-Runners

Of Course You Can¹⁶

Weight: 12-0| Age: 6

T: N P Mulholland J: Sam Twiston-Davies

Caughtinaspell¹⁴

Weight: 11-10| Age: 6

T: O Murphy J: S Bowen

Shibuya Song²³

Weight: 11-2| Age: 5

T: R T Phillips J: Finn Lambert

Milanese Rose¹⁶

Weight: 10-5| Age: 8

T: N P Mulholland J: Danny Mullins

Stargazer Belle³⁸

Weight: 10-3| Age: 6

T: B I Case J: Harry Bannister

Forecasts

Giulietta (8/15), Oneforthefairgreen (6/1), Of Course You Can (6/1), Faha Belle (15/2), Turkey And Ham (10/1), Shibuya Song (12/1), Caughtinaspell (12/1), Killybegs Jet Lady (14/1), Milanese Rose (16/1), Betty's Belle (33/1), Bean Norty (33/1), Darsi's Darling (40/1), Clover Pass (40/1), Misting (40/1), Stargazer Belle (50/1), Conniegetaway (50/1)

With the promise of better to come from ONEFORTHEFAIRGREEN now pitched into a low-grade handicap and faced with a stiffer test, she could be the answer. This step up in trip is also likely to serve Shibuya Song well and she is second choice ahead of Of Course You Can and Faha Belle. If Giulietta turns out quickly under a penalty following her Worcester breakthrough success on Thursday she will be a danger to all.
