Looked a stayer still firmly on the up when adding the Southern National to his CV at Fontwell last November. However, he hasn't shown much spark in subsequent outings.
Confirmed promise of stable debut when landing a decent pot at Sandown last month. Up 4 lb but remains on a good mark on old form so is much respected.
Maiden hurdle winner last term and successful both completed starts since switched to fences, most recently taking a 3m Doncaster handicap in a first-time visor. 4 lb rise fair enough and should make his presence felt in first-time blinkers.
Back-to-back winner of novice hurdles last season and stepped up on his low-key chase debut when, equipped with first-time cheekpieces (retained), finishing third of 9 at Doncaster (20.5f, soft). Now 2 lb lower but has yet to prove himself over this far.
Career best when winning 3-runner handicap chase (13/8) at Perth (20.1f, good) when last seen, easily. Returns from 18 months off on the same mark and market may indicate how prepared he is.
Won 3 on the bounce over fences during 2021/22 and, having missed the whole of last season, he has shown that plenty of ability remains, though he needs to bounce back from being pulled up (always behind) in Great Yorkshire at Doncaster last time.
Recorded a hat-trick switched to fences in the second half of last season. Disconcerting effort at Exeter on comeback run, though, so bounce back is needed.
Grand servant to connections but looks regressive now, down the field over C&D last time. Others make more appeal unless money comes for him.

Forecasts
Hitching Jacking (9/4), Java Point (10/3), Egbert (18/5), Cap Du Nord (13/2), Slipway (8/1), Strictlyadancer (12/1), Statuario (25/1), Northern Poet (28/1)
JAVA POINT had more in hand than the bare result indicates when scoring at Sandown and he remains well treated after just a 4 lb rise, so he's fancied to follow up at the possible expense of Egbert, who scored at Doncaster last time and now has blinkers applied. Statuario can make his presence felt if he retains all of his ability (not seen for 18 months).
