Consistent sort made a successful return to chasing at Carlisle (2m) in October and produced another sound effort in defeat when second of 5 in handicap chase at this course (21.6f, soft) 23 days ago. The obvious threat to the selection.

Fair winner over hurdles in Ireland and created a fine impression given a second try over fences when making a successful stable debut in a 7-runner handicap chase at Carlisle (15.9f, soft) 84 days ago. Type to go on improving as a chaser and his claims are crystal clear.

Overcame inexperience when when springing a 25/1 surprise in 19f Catterick novice hurdle on New Year's Day. Back on track at Southwell last time but he likely has plenty to find from out of the weights on chase debut.

Was running creditably when taking a late fall when last seen at Newcastle just before Christmas but has masses to find from almost 3 st out of the weights here.

Forecasts

Nells Son (8/11), Go Boy (6/4), Backbyjet (12/1), Zihuatanejo (66/1)

Verdict

GO BOY looks a useful prospect based on his smooth chasing debut success at Carlisle and he should prove capable of defying a 6 lb higher mark to account for the consistent Nells Son. The other pair are both racing from out of the weights, chasing-debutant Backbyjet the pick for third.

  3. Backbyjet12/1
