Hadn't shown much on his first couple of starts but has plenty of stamina in his pedigree and stepped up to defy massive odds in 8-runner novice hurdle at Exeter (18.5f, heavy) 17 days ago, still green. More needed again under a 10 lb penalty but not yet the finished article.

Hit the frame in a couple of above-average bumpers and confirmed the promise of his hurdling debut when winning 8-runner novice at Sedgefield (19.8f, soft) 64 days ago, suited by increase in trip. Handy 7-lb conditional takes over in the saddle so respected under a penalty.

Half-brother to useful hurdler/smart chaser Potterman. Back-to-back wins in bumpers at Bangor in December and made decent start over hurdles when third in Chepstow novice 5 weeks ago, not knocked about. Will improve and looks the one to beat.

Forecasts

Guard The Moon (4/7), Panhandle Slim (3/1), Mr Bramley (9/2), Absolute Steel (17/2), Scrumpy (100/1), Over Milk Wood (125/1), Legostar (250/1), Pearly King (300/1)

Verdict

Dual course bumper winner GUARD THE MOON showed plenty of aptitude for hurdling when third at Chepstow and looks the one to beat. Mr Bramley was progressive in bumpers so may emerge as the biggest threat with Panhandle Slim and Absolute Steel both shouldering penalties.
