Betfred Last Fling Handicap Chase (GBB Race)

Off time: 13:25 | Winning time: 8m 16.71s

Fortescue^p²¹

Age: 9| Weight: 12-0| J: Hugh Nugent⁽³⁾| T: H D Daly| OR: 138

9/2

Useful chaser but just the one noteworthy effort last season, namely when fourth of 22 in the Becher at Aintree. Decent enough return off reduced mark when fourth at Chepstow but has to build on that now.

Form: 44P50-4

Omar Maretti^p¹³

Age: 9| Weight: 11-8| J: Bryan Carver| T: A M Hales| OR: 132

25/1

Dual-point winner who bagged 4 of his first 5 starts under Rules but has lost his way subsequently. Plenty to prove.

Form: P/3PF-66

Collectors Item^p²²

Age: 6| Weight: 11-5| J: R P McLernon| T: J & A O'Neill| OR: 129| BF

11/4

Dual novice hurdle winner last season and getting the hang of things over fences this term, fourth in first-time headgear at Sandown 3 weeks ago, running on late. Step up in trip will suit so could be the answer.

Form: 123-454

Fantastikas^p,t²⁴

Age: 8| Weight: 11-0| J: James Turner⁽⁷⁾| T: N & W Twiston-Davies| OR: 124

7/2

Progressive as a novice chaser but disappointed last season and flopped having been well backed on his comeback run at Newton Abbot. Stopped the slide from a tumbling mark when close second at Ludlow last time and player if backing that up.

Form: P300-62

East Street^p¹⁶

Age: 7| Weight: 10-10| J: B S Hughes| T: J Parkinson & S Smith| OR: 120| BF

5/1

Unreliable type but resumed winning ways in 9-runner handicap chase at Wetherby despite racing lazily. Backed that up when going close at Newcastle 16 days ago, albeit looking a typically hard ride. This tougher.

Form: 413-P12

Robyndzone²²

Age: 9| Weight: 10-3| J: Ned Fox⁽⁵⁾| T: Miss V Williams| OR: 113

10/3

Contributed to what has been a fantastic start to the season for the Venetia Williams yard with a clear-cut reappearance success in a Ludlow handicap (25.6f, soft). Let down by jumping at Sandown next time but type to bounce back over this longer trip.

Form: 5P12-1F

Collectors Item (11/4), Robyndzone (10/3), Fantastikas (7/2), Fortescue (9/2), East Street (5/1), Omar Maretti (25/1)

COLLECTORS ITEM is getting better over fences and has been crying out for this sort of trip, so looks the solid option. Fantastikas may emerge as the biggest threat having stopped the slide at Ludlow.
