7/2
Point winner who looked a good prospect when winning back-to-back novice hurdles at Kelso and over C&D earlier this year and resumed progress after a wind-op/summer break when scoring at Hexham (20.1f, heavy) in October. Possibly amiss when tailed-off last at Aintree later that month, though.

18/1
Completed hat-trick of novice hurdle successes when seeing off 5 rivals at Wetherby last October. Sound start to his chase career when third of 6 over 19.5f there over Christmas but made mistakes and was pulled up at Lingfield when last seen 10 months ago. Makes return back over timber.

3/1
3-time hurdle winner for Michael Scudamore, including on return to action at Wetherby (2m, soft) last December. Essentially disappointing thereafter and he did too much too soon on return following a breathing op at Chepstow (2m) in October. Tongue strap refitted.

13/8
Winner of a course maiden and Haydock novice towards the end of 2022. Handicap debut third back over C&D in March was respectable and caught the eye in a deeper race when mid-field at Ayr a month later. Interesting from this mark provided he's ready to roll.

Capitalised on the drop in grade returned to hurdling with victory in 10-runner handicap at Sedgefield (16.8f, soft) last month, staying on to lead close home. Shaped as if still in good form when third there (19.8f, heavy) a week later so he could well be in the mix again.

Forecasts

War Soldier (13/8), Lebowski (3/1), Dare To Shout (7/2), Horn Cape (9/2), Not What It Seems (18/1)

Verdict

Tough to rule out any of the quintet but the vote goes to WAR SOLDIER, who already boasts a couple of course wins and really caught the eye when last seen at Ayr 7 months ago. Provided he's ready to roll, he can get the better of Lebowski, who did too much too soon on return/yard debut at Chepstow in October but should be much closer to form here. Horn Cape looks best of the rest.
