Expensive recruit from the Irish pointing field who shaped well on his hurdling debut when second of 11 in novice (7/2) at Kempton (16f, good to soft) 6 months ago. Should have more to offer. Player.

Well held sole start in bumpers and was completing for the first time in three runs over hurdles when seventh of eight at Plumpton (2m) 20 days ago. Needs to build on it in retained cheekpieces.

Third in only point. Refused to settle when seventh at Fontwell on hurdles debut before badly hampered after 4 out when pulled up at Fakenham following month. Hooded for first time and may still do better.

Fair 1m4f Flat winner for Gay Kelleway. Goes hurdling now for his new yard after 7 months off and market can prove a good indicator.

Bought for €90,000 after winning the third of 3 bumper starts for P. Journiac but he came in a remote second of 7 in novice at Wincanton (19.8f, soft) on UK/hurdles debut. In excellent hands though and should do better after 8 months off.

Point winner who overcame inexperience to imake a successful debut in 7-runner bumper at Ffos Las (15.8f, good to soft) 8 months ago. Interesting recruit to this sphere.

Made it 2-3 in bumpers and looked a useful prospect when going in at Hereford in March. Commands plenty of respect now going over hurdles.

Ran out a wide-margin winner of 17f minor event at Angouleme on sole Flat outing for A. Chaille-Chaille in March, 2022. Has had a breathing operation ahead of hurdling/stable debut. Well worth a market check.

Hooded, only fifth of 7 in bumper at Ludlow (13/8) on NH debut 32 days ago. Makes hurdles debut with headgear dispensed with and clearly thought capable of better.

Forecasts

Southoftheborder (8/15), Classic Anthem (5/1), Spirits Bay (11/2), Impact Du Bonheur (7/1), Stenatee (14/1), Too Much Hammer (50/1), Theweddingcanwait (66/1), Double Powerful (200/1), Eloso (200/1), Crookbarrow (200/1)

Verdict

The market should reveal plenty here but Nicky Henderson's SOUTHOFTHEBORDER is taken to retain his unbeaten record in points/bumpers and make a winning start over timber. Classic Anthem is feared most on the back of his promising hurdling bow at Kempton, although ex-French recruits Impact du Bonheur and Stenatee both bring potential and need considering too, especially if the betting vibes are positive.
