€55,000 3-y-o, £60,000 5-y-o, Milan gelding. Brother to 2 winners, including fairly useful chaser Jimmil, and closely related to fairly useful hurdler/useful chaser Wolf Shield. Irish point runner-up, so merits a second look for good yard.

Timeform
Lightly raced in points and showed promise when staying on for second in a Sligo bumper last summer. Not in same form for current connections when third in 5-runner bumper at Newton Abbot (16.8f, good to soft, 4/1) next time. Market can prove guide after 13 months off.
|
Timeform
Bought for €90,000 after winning the third of 3 bumper starts for P. Journiac but proved disappointing when only second of 7 in novice hurdle at Wincanton (19.8f, soft) on UK/hurdles debut. Should do better after 7 months off.

Timeform
Wide-margin winner of sole start between the flags back in October 2021 and looked a smart prospect when running away with 9-runner bumper at Taunton (16.5f, heavy) on NH debut. Looks a powerful traveller and should take plenty of beating on hurdles bow.

Blue Bresil gelding. £38,000 buy after finishing runner-up twice from 5 starts in Irish points. Yard's newcomers always respected.
|
Timeform
Picked up for £60,000 after finishing second in a maiden point last November but didn't show too much immediate promise when fifth of 7 in novice hurdle at Worcester (23f, soft) on NH debut 21 days ago. Looks one for further down the line.

Timeform
Built on a promising debut to come from a fair way back and land 7-runner bumper (11/4) at Perth (16.2f, good to soft) in September 2021. Off since, so market can act as guide now hurdling.
|
Timeform
Sans Frontieres gelding. Sister to point winner Pelegrine Falcon. Dam, lightly raced in bumpers, sister to fairly useful 2m chaser Tree Creeper. Last of 3 finishers sole start in Irish points, so others preferred.

Vendangeur gelding. Placed in points but showed little when eleventh of 14 in bumper at Fontwell (17.7f, soft) on NH debut. Off 9 months. Makes hurdles debut.
|
Timeform
Modest form at best in bumpers and went backwards from a mildly encouraging hurdles debut when fifth of 8 in novice hurdle at Fontwell (19.2f, good) 26 days ago. Easy to dismiss.
|
Timeform
Well held in pair of bumpers and fared little better when seventh of 11 in novice hurdle at Stratford (16.3f, good to soft) on hurdles bow 24 days ago.

French Flat winner hasn't been out of the frame in 4 completed starts over timber for M. Mescam. Has already reached a fairly useful level and rates a threat on UK debut.

Appeared to still be learning on the job but showed plenty to be positive about when winning 8-runner bumper at Warwick (16f, soft) in March with plenty in hand. Highly respected stepping up in trip for hurdles bow.
|
Timeform
Made little impression both completed starts in bumpers and is hard to recommend on return/hurdles debut.

Forecasts

Johnnywho (15/8), Impact Du Bonheur (9/2), Ten Lengths Tom (11/2), Sun Joy (8/1), Captain Wallace (12/1), Renegade Arrow (12/1), Kilbarry Hill (12/1), Mullys Choice (14/1), Sprucefrontiers (14/1), Eire Street (16/1), Tara's Light (33/1), Elpologreg (50/1), Mountain Bay (66/1), Vendant (66/1)

Verdict

JOHNNYWHO was amongst the most exciting bumper winners in Britain last season and he's fancied to confirm himself a smart prospect by making a successful hurdles debut. Ben Pauling's French recruit Sun Joy has bags of experience at a good standard, so should prove a worthy rival for the selection, whilst Ten Lengths Tom also created a good impression in bumpers last year and is preferred for third to Paul Nicholls' Impact du Bonheur, who has to shrug off an underwhelming UK debut.
