Yet to win on the Flat but different story over hurdles, winning juveniles at Stratford and Cartmel in August. Creditable third back on the Flat at Chester last month. Should give his running but no easy task conceding a fair bit of weight all round.

Fairly useful Flat performer but his recent efforts in that sphere have been disappointing. Watching brief advised on hurdle debut.

Modest maiden on the Flat for Brian Meehan. Best watched now hurdling for a new stable unless the betting strongly hints otherwise.

Masked Marvel gelding. Dam, 11.5f-15f winner, half-sister to fair hurdler (17f-21f winner) Capivari out of winner around 2m Plique A Jour. Betting should help guide to expectations on debut.

Fair maiden on Flat (stays 1½m) for the Crisfords. Faded into a well-held fourth on his Fontwell hur4dle debut for his new stable last month but could strip fitter with that behind him. Cheekpieces worn in recent starts are left off here.

Probably didn't achieve that much when second in a claiming hurdle in France last month but rates a potential improver having joined David Pipe since.

Fair Flat winner for Ralp Beckett. Shaped well when close second on his Sedgefield hurdle debut 19 days ago (likely to have won with a better jumps at the last). Likely to improve.

Won on the Flat in France for Jean-Claude Rouget and runner-up on the second of 2 hurdle starts there last spring. Bold show likely on first run for Harry Derham.

Fair maiden at up to 11f on the Flat. Much respected now hurdling for a stable traditionally strongly in juvenile events.

Fair form on Flat for Hugo Palmer. Could only manage a distant third on his Plumpton hurdle debut last month but he should achieve more in due course. Has a tongue tie added now.

Timeform
Made a winning debut on the Flat in France in May and ran to a fair level when second in 1¼m Epsom novice last month for new trainer Gary Moore. Interesting hurdling debutant.
|
Timeform
Fairly useful form over hurdles on soft ground in France. Seemed to get found out on a quicker surface when a below-form second at Ludlow recently but these conditions should be a bit more to her liking after the rain in recent days.

Forecasts

Kundaline (3/1), Soigneux Bell (10/3), Gifted Angel (4/1), Mojo Ego (6/1), Latin Verse (13/2), Outgun (11/1), Kauto Kawai (22/1), Captain Marvellous (28/1), Bridge (33/1), Sir Raj (50/1), Awtaad Prince (50/1), Cosmic View (125/1)

Verdict

French-recruit MOJO EGO gets the nod to make a winning start for Harry Derham but there are several with possibilities in an interesting opener. Latin Verse should have a big say if brushing up on his jumping with his Sedgefield experience behind him, while Kundaline's French form suggests she's better than she showed at Ludlow. Soigneux Bell and Outgun are a couple of interesting hurdle newcomers in a race where the betting could prove informative.
