Runner-up in a point and made it third time lucky in bumpers here in January. Well beaten under a penalty at Taunton but offered something work on sent hurdling when fourth in a 11-runner novice at Kempton (2m) in May. Entitled to improve.

Made frame both starts in points and made a winning Rules debut in 4-runner bumper at Newbury (16.3f) in February, having run of race. Respected on hurdles debut/return.

Timeform
Impressive winner of Newbury bumper on debut. Turned over at short odds in a first-time tongue strap on first completed start over hurdles at Huntingdon in May but ought to prove capable of better.

€38,000 3-y-o, £80,000 4-y-o, Jukebox Jury gelding. Dam (h103), sister to fairly useful hurdler (stays 3¼m) Whatucallher. Runner-up sole start in Irish points (Apr 8). One to note starting out under Rules for respected yard. Tongue tied.

Landed a couple of small-field bumpers in early summer and was unlucky to bump into an above-average one on his Worcester hurdle debut (2m) 18 days ago. Still looked a bit raw there, so he's entitled to progress. Tongue strap on.

Half-brother to 3 winners, including fair hurdler/fairly useful chaser Cariatide and fairly useful hurdler/chaser Gain de Cause. Failed to meet expectations in a Worcester bumper on debut back in May.

Related to winners but hasn't offered much in a brace of bumpers.

Timeform
Fair bumper winner who showed an aptitude for hurdling at Stratford in August but will need to settle better if she is to progress.

Forecasts

Iolaos Du Mou (2/1), Duhallow Tommy (9/4), Idy Wood (11/2), Corporal Jackjones (13/2), King William Rufus (13/2), Clondaw Royale (8/1), A Tickatickatiming (9/1), Jongleur D'etoiles (66/1), Miss Malou (250/1), West Hill Moth (250/1)

Verdict

KING WILLIAM RUFUS shaped with plenty of promise in a trio of bumpers last season and appeals as the type to take well to hurdling, so he's put forward as the answer. Idy Wood enjoyed the run of the race when winning his sole outing in bumpers in February, but was quite an expensive 4-y-o who should have a future jumping, while Iolaos du Mou and Duhallow Tommy are others to consider in an interesting early-season novice.
