Unreliable type but he showed the benefit of cheekpieces (retained) when winning at Cheltenham last December. Poor effort in the Pertemps Final next time and ran no sort of race faced with an easier assignment at this track back in April. Has his second go over fences here.

Easy winner in the mud on his Worcester hurdling debut (20f) last October and improved when third upped to Grade 1 level in the Challow. That gruelling race may have left a mark given that he struggled subsequently, but he remains with potential making his chase/handicap debut on return.

Bumper winner and continued the good work when comfortably off the mark in a novice hurdle at Ascot on sole 2021/22 outing. Returned from a year-long absence with a solid showing there last November but not so good on handicap debut when last seen 9 months ago. Now goes chasing.

Fontwell novice hurdle winner in autumn 2021 and having been cut some slack by the handicapper, ran creditably when runner-up at Uttoxeter (19.9f, good to soft) 7 months ago. Sent chasing here (disputing lead when fell 2 out sole start in points) but likely he will find a few too strong.

Opened his account over fences at Southwell (2m4f) in April and has improved on that form since, well backed but shaping like a non-stayer when runner-up at Bangor (24f, good) last month. Tongue tie reapplied and fancied to be bang there having had another wind op.

Flat/hurdle winner. Runner-up first 2 starts switched to fences this summer and went one better in 3-runner handicap chase at Newton Abbot (21f, good) last month, just holding on after again pulling himself up nearing the line. Mark unchanged so holds leading claims again (had wind op).

Forecasts

Idalko Bihoue (5/2), Quid Pro Quo (11/4), Kandoo Kid (10/3), Nickle Back (11/2), Hometown Boy (7/1), Passing Well (8/1), Valentino Dancer (10/1), Captain Morgs (10/1)

Verdict

The market will no doubt prove informative with several chasing debutants lining up but VALENTINO DANCER made it third time lucky in this sphere at Newton Abbot last month and operating from an unchanged mark, Fergal O'Brien's 8-y-o is fancied to follow up having had a breathing operation since. Second choice is Quid Pro Quo, who shaped like a non-stayer over 3m at Bangor last month, with the returning Hometown Boy and Passing Well rounding off the shortlist.
