Confirmed debut promise when runner-up in a Warwick bumper back in February and filled that same position on return/debut for this yard on return at Newton Abbot (16.8f, good) 7 weeks ago. Wouldn't need to be a superstar to go close on hurdles bow here.

Sent off at huge prices and offered nothing on both starts over hurdles at Newton Abbot this summer. Impossible to fancy.

Easy winner of sole start between the flags last spring and looked a good prospect when readily landing bumper at Huntingdon back in April. Ran at least as well in defeat when runner-up a month later at Warwick and representing a top yard, he's sure to be popular on hurdling debut.

Ocovango gelding. Dam (b75), ran twice in bumpers, half-sister to useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 3m) Justpourit. Runner-up sole start in Irish points (May 20).

Left debut behind when winning a 3-runner bumper at Newton Abbot in June and followed up under a penalty there (16.8f, good to firm) a week later for his new stable. Makes hurdles bow after 3 months off and he needs considering.

Made the frame on his first 3 starts in bumpers, including in a listed contest at Cheltenham on New Year's Day. However, proved a let-down faced with more testing conditions at Taunton (16.5f, heavy) when last seen 6 months ago and could get back on the up now hurdling.

Fair handicapper on Flat but refused to race on his last 2 starts 5 months apart, latest at Bath back in May. Has since left Stan Moore and it's tough to have any confidence backing him.

Achieved little on hurdles debut at Stratford in July but showed more 9 weeks on when third in maiden at Bangor (16.7f, good) just less than a fortnight ago. That form nothing special however, so will need to take another step forward.

Forecasts

Rock House (8/13), Mr Mackay (4/1), Alright Dai (4/1), Corporal Jackjones (7/1), Lone Soldier (8/1), Black Occ (33/1), Luckie Money (50/1), Princess Unique (150/1), Ruith Le Tu (200/1), Bowmans Dream (250/1)

Verdict

The trio with hurdling experience hardly set a high bar to aim at, so bumper-winner ROCK HOUSE is selected to make a successful start in this sphere for the prolific Dan & Harry Skelton combination. Corporal Jackjones won a pair of Newton Abbot bumpers in the space of a week back in June so he could emerge as the main threat, with Alright Dai and the selection's stablemate Lone Soldier rounding off the shortlist.
