F4 IT Handicap Hurdle (Div 2)

Off time: 16:56 | Winning time: 4m 44.26s

Minella Youngy^p,t²⁸

Age: 5| Weight: 12-0| J: Dylan Johnston⁽⁷⁾| T: I Jardine| OR: 97| DWS

3/1

Fair winning hurdler in Ireland for Gavin Cromwell and more of an impact for current yard when twice runner-up in June. Had a wind op after a lesser run here last month. Also has a tongue strap refitted.

Form: 48-5227

Indian Sunbird³⁵

Age: 6| Weight: 11-13| J: Joe Williamson⁽⁵⁾| T: Sara Ender| OR: 96

14/1

Fair form at best when placed twice in bumpers but yet to match that over hurdles. More realistic chance now handicapping, though, and the stable won a division of this race last year. One to note in the betting.

Form: 0/2338-4

Bari Breeze^t²⁷⁵

Age: 8| Weight: 11-10| J: Harry Reed| T: M F Harris| OR: 93

12/1

Didn't take to fences in 2022 but his hurdle mark has come down at the same time and he's dangerously well treated having finished second off 9 lb higher early last year.

Form: 8264/9P-

Rhodia³⁷

Age: 7| Weight: 11-9| J: Jack Hogan⁽³⁾| T: Sarah Hollinshead| OR: 92

9/2

Runner-up twice in bumpers. Yet to better modest form over hurdles but she might have needed her Cartmel handicap debut after 4 months off and this sort of mark shouldn't be beyond her judged on her bumper exploits.

Form: 62364-6

Fox's Socks^p¹⁹

Age: 8| Weight: 11-4| J: Harriet Tucker⁽⁷⁾| T: A M Hales| OR: 87

8/1

Winning hurdler whose record over fences has been mixed but he is on a feasible mark if a return to the smaller obstacles helps to spark him back to life.

Form: 525-3P3

Miss Wachit^b⁵⁵

Age: 7| Weight: 10-13| J: Tom Midgley⁽³⁾| T: Ruth Jefferson| OR: 82WS

10/1

Won over hurdles at Southwell last summer. Also second over fences there last summer but it's been largely downhill since. Reverts to hurdles after a recent wind op.

Form: 024R-4P

Carapaz^t¹²

Age: 5| Weight: 10-11| J: Ned Fox⁽⁵⁾| T: David Dennis| OR: 80

40/1

Failed to complete both starts in points and has no more than hinted at ability over hurdles in recent months, pulling up on handicap debut 12 days ago.

Form: FP-P87P

Edinburgh Rock^b³²

Age: 4| Weight: 10-7| J: Bradley Harris⁽⁵⁾| T: M F Harris| OR: 80

10/1

Fared better than previously over hurdles in a first-time visor when third of 11 in 17f Cartmel selling handicap in May but failed to back it up at Worcester since. Visor off, blinkers back on.

Form: 645-30

Black Lightning^b²⁸

Age: 10| Weight: 10-7| J: Tabitha Worsley⁽³⁾| T: G Howell| OR: 76| C

3/1

Course winner. Fourteen runs since last win in 2021 but has run with credit when reaching the frame over 20.5f here on all 3 outings this summer. Should figure again.

Form: 735-234

Diana Prince⁵⁵

Age: 7| Weight: 10-3| J: Peter Kavanagh⁽⁵⁾| T: P T Midgley| OR: 72WS

22/1

Point winner. Only minor promise in maiden/novice hurdles but handicaps provide her with a more realistic chance. Has had wind surgery since last seen 8 weeks ago.

Form: RFP/5-68

Ballynaveen Boy^p¹⁸

Age: 4| Weight: 10-2| J: Toby Wynne⁽⁵⁾| T: S Allwood| OR: 70

150/1

Little form on Flat/over hurdles.

Form: 46P-P0

Isla Diamonds⁴³

Age: 8| Weight: 10-2| J: Aaron Anderson⁽⁵⁾| T: M E Sowersby| OR: 61

33/1

Little solid form.

Form: PPP/P5-P

Forecasts

Minella Youngy (3/1), Black Lightning (3/1), Rhodia (9/2), Fox's Socks (8/1), Miss Wachit (10/1), Edinburgh Rock (10/1), Bari Breeze (12/1), Indian Sunbird (14/1), Diana Prince (22/1), Isla Diamonds (33/1), Carapaz (40/1), Ballynaveen Boy (150/1)

In a contest where very few arrive with compelling claims a chance is taken on the returning BARI BREEZE, who wasn't in much form over fences when last seen in November but is on a good mark if sparking back to life returned to hurdles after a break. The unexposed Rhodia could be sharper for her Cartmel reappearance and is second choice ahead of Black Lightning.
