Dual winner over hurdles last term, although ended the campaign out of form and struggled on his first 3 starts this season over fences. However, runner-up at Wincanton (20.2f) last time and he's capable off his current mark reverted to hurdling. Major player.

Bumper/maiden hurdle winner last season who took another step forward when making a successful handicap debut at Chepstow (19.4f) on his return. Ran well when third at Newcastle next time, but needs to leave a disappointing run last time behind him.

Promise on first of 2 runs in bumpers for Jack Barber back in 2020/21. Has been going the right way in a trio of starts over hurdles this season, readily opening his account in novice at Exeter (18.5f) last month. Merits consideration on handicap bow.

Bumper winner who progressed again over hurdles when making all in novice at Sedgefield (19.8f) in December. Not taken lightly as he makes handicap debut with tongue strap on first time.

Winner of a newcomers' event over hurdles in France in 2021. Made a low-key start for his current connections, but step back in the right direction when sixth of 11 in handicap at Ffos Las (2m4f) in February. Task is now to build on that effort.

No better than mid-division in a pair of bumpers but showed more in 3 starts over hurdles, third in maiden at Warwick (2m5f) when last seen back in March 2021. Has lengthy absence to overcome as he makes his handicap debut.

Forecasts

Decorated (7/4), Oxygen (3/1), Operation Manna (7/2), Earth King (13/2), Balko Saint (17/2), Roscoe Tara (22/1)

Verdict

Having been campaigned over fences this season, BALKO SAINT ran better than for a while when runner-up at Wincanton last time and probably would have won if not for errors in the latter stages. The 6-y-o is on a workable mark now back over hurdles and he can see off the challenge of last-time-out winners Decorated and Earth King.
