£12,000 3-y-o, Black Sam Bellamy gelding who looked a good prospect when making a winning debut in a C&D bumper (good to soft) 11 weeks ago, value for extra in coming from the back of the field. Leading claims under a penalty.

Beaten 24 lengths when fourth in a 7-runner Carlisle bumper (17f) on debut but better was clearly expected (sent off at 5/2) and did sustain a challenge until final 1f, so improvement should be forthcoming.

€150,000 3-y-o, No Risk At All gelding who failed to meet expectations when eighth of 12 in bumper (5/1) at this C&D (good to soft) in October, perhaps needing the run more than anticipated. No surprise should he leave that effort behind.

Won sole start in Irish points and while he didn't come up to expectations when fifth in a C&D bumper over 3 months ago (sent off 3/1), he might well come on for that. Tongue tie applied.

Forecasts

Spirits Bay (5/2), Royal Defender (5/2), Duc Du Rene (4/1), Delgany Bobby Blue (13/2), Hurricane Danny (15/2), Beachcomber (14/1), Ebony Spirit (22/1), Yorgunnabealady (33/1), Parsons Stone (66/1), Passing Kate (80/1), Sweet Saffron (150/1), Look Out To Sea (150/1), My Dream (200/1), Minella Magical (200/1)

Verdict

The market will no doubt prove informative with regards to the newcomers but SPIRITS BAY looked a good prospect when comfortably landing a C&D bumper 11 weeks ago (value for extra having come from the back of the field). With further improvement not out of the equation, Nigel Twiston-Davies' charge is fancied to follow up. Beachcomber, Duc du Rene and Hurricane Danny are just a handful of potential dangers.
