Left Robert Tyner for £185,000 and he advanced his form when landing 12-runner maiden at Uttoxeter starting out for Jamie Snowden in November. Found the company too hot in the Challow at Newbury since but obvious claims back in calmer waters here.

Well held in bumper/2 hurdles for George Bewley and change of stable and addition of this headgear combination failed to induce any improvement at Hexham.

Equipped with a hood (discarded here) when a fairly encouraging sixth in a 10-runner bumper on debut at this course (16.2f, good to soft) last month. Likely to do better now upped in trip for this handicap bow but he's probably more of a long-term prospect.

Lightly-raced 8-y-o (presumably hasn't been the easiest to train) who has finished in the money on all 3 starts since switched to hurdles, third of 12 in a 16.2f Kelso novice on recent return from a 12-month absence. Entitled to come on for that and should make his presence felt.

Looked good prospect when wide-margin winner of Southwell bumper on debut in December 2020. Beaten next 2 starts in that sphere but positive start over hurdles when runner-up at Worcester (2½m, heavy) in October and he's open to improvement.

Winning pointer at the fifth attempt who shaped as if better for the run despite being well backed on Hexham hurdle debut in September. Upped in trip and more like it when third over this C&D since but likely to again find one or two too good.

Just modest form in bumpers and didn't fare much better starting out over hurdles at Kelso (16.2f, heavy). Big step forward needed now upped in trip in a first-time tongue strap.

£45,000 Pour Moi gelding who shaped with a good deal of promise in bumpers at Ayr and Carlisle last season. Likely he'll be seen in a better light now faced with a stiffer test switched to hurdles, and it will be interesting to see what the market has to say.

Little impact in a bumper/2 starts over hurdles so far and looks more one for the longer term.

Forecasts

Passing Well (4/5), Fame And Concrete (5/2), Five Dollar Fine (13/2), Fabuleux Du Clos (9/1), Paddock Cottage (20/1), Tenbobeachway (40/1), Ballin Bay (125/1), Gie It Laldy (125/1), Askalli (250/1), High On The Hill (250/1)

Verdict

PASSING WELL understandably found the competition too hot in a Newbury Grade 1 on New Year's Eve and he looks capable of defying a penalty back in less exalted company. Having shaped well both starts in bumpers last term. Paddock Cottage is an intriguing candidate now tackling hurdles but Fame And Concrete, who found just one too strong on debut in this sphere at Worcester during the autumn, is feared most. Fabuleux du Clos is likely to be on the premises, too.
