Useful hurdler who has translated all that ability to the Flat, completing an AW hat-trick on Good Friday last year. Ran a cracker when runner-up on handicap debut at Goodwood back in September but unable to land a blow in German St Leger 12 days later. Should go well.

Fourth of 8 on handicap hurdle debut at Sandown (16f, soft, 4/1) just over 5 weeks ago. Significantly up in trip. Useful on the Flat, no threat when down the field in Longchamp Group 2 back in October. Should be in the mix.

16/1 and tongue strap on for 1st time, failed to get home when twelfth of 14 in handicap at Goodwood (20.4f, good to firm), weakening 3f out. Makes return after 5 months off the track (has had a breathing operation) but others make more appeal.

Cases can be made for most of these but the most persuasive is for EARLOFTHECOTSWOLDS, who completed a hat-trick on All-Weather-Championship Finals Day last year and Nigel Twiston-Davies' charge is fancied to qualify for this year's renewal with victory today. Raymond Tusk hasn't been seen on a synthetic surface for a while but he may well emerge as the main danger, ahead of Berkshire Rocco.
