Largely consistent over hurdles last term and set to run well but for departing at the last back over fences over C&D in April. However, have to go back to early 2020 for sole victory and he may well need this outing returning back over the smaller obstacles.

Fairly useful winning ex-French juvenile who clearly hasn't been easy to train but defied an absence of 3 years to make a winning yard/handicap debut at Wetherby back in March (suffered wound to right fetlock). Given time to get over those exertions so fancied to feature on return.

Dual winner in France who having had a breathing operation, took advantage of a slipping mark when scoring over C&D on reappearance earlier this month. Had a bit up his sleeve that day so likely to be bang there again with a 4 lb rise certainly not insurmountable.

Added to his good record fresh when striking at Exeter last November but well below par in three subsequent starts. Handicapper given him a squeak and any further rain would only enhance his chances.

Struck at the first time of asking over hurdles at Newbury last December. Similar form when third twice after in Graded company but made hard work of things when runner-up back down in grade in 3-runner event at Fakenham in April. Percentage call is to look elsewhere on return.

Fairly useful on Flat and improved on opening hurdle exploits (on debut for Colin Tizzard) when successful at Wincanton (15.2f) in March. Good second back there in April but yet to complete in 2 starts for new yard in the summer. Handicap debut today.

Forecasts

Sonigino (4/5), Forever William (9/2), Playful Saint (9/2), Mack The Man (10/1), Jaramillo (10/1), Zambezi Fix (12/1), Harlem Soul (80/1)

Verdict

A few in with a squeak but SONIGINO had a bit up his sleeve when making a winning reappearance over C&D earlier this month, and with a race-fitness edge over most of his rivals, Paul Nicholls' charge gets the verdict to follow up. Playful Saint defied an absence of over 3 years on handicap/yard debut at Wetherby in March so he may emerge the main danger if ready to roll, ahead of Mack The Man, who has a good record fresh so has to be considered.
