Ferry Ales Brewery Prelude Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race)

Off time: 16:06 | Winning time: 4m 7.10s

Pisgah Pike^p,t³²

Age: 7| Weight: 12-0| J: G Sheehan| T: Jamie Snowden| OR: 131| CD

18/1

Career best when winning 11-runner C&D Summer handicap hurdle in July, coming in for very good tactical ride. Proved to be a disappointment at Worcester 32 days ago but bounce back distinctly possible around here (record stands at 221)

Form: 132-716

Mr Coldstone²²

Age: 6| Weight: 11-10| J: B S Hughes| T: C & A Pogson| OR: 127

33/1

Maiden hurdle winner in Ireland but that came back on New Year's Day in 2021 and he's gone winless since over hurdles/on Flat for Willie Mullins. Changed hands for £9,000 ahead of quick return to action and booking of Hughes does catch the eye.

Form: 0F/0506-

Inca Prince^h¹²⁷

Age: 4| Weight: 11-7| J: Callum Bewley| T: Ruth Jefferson| OR: 126| D

22/1

Ex-Irish gelding who scored for the third time over hurdles in 9-runner juvenile at Musselburgh (17.4f) in March. Well held in Aintree Grade 1 thereafter and again too free on couple of spins on Flat in May. Back from a break now.

Form: 31151P-

Snookered^v²⁸

Age: 8| Weight: 11-7| J: Thomas Willmott⁽³⁾| T: B Ellison| OR: 124| D

22/1

Mixed bag on Flat/over hurdles but well ridden when capitalising on his reduced mark at Cartmel (17.2f) in July. Not in quite the same form from inflated mark back there 4 weeks ago but not ruled out for each-way purposes.

Form: 874-016

Kihavah⁷

Age: 5| Weight: 11-6| J: C O'Farrell| T: A Keatley| OR: 123

4/1

Handicap/novice winner over the winter and opened account on Flat at York (11.8f) in May. Similar form on 3 of his 4 starts on the level since and he doesn't look out of things back over timber.

Form: 217105-

Judicial Law¹⁶⁷

Age: 5| Weight: 11-5| J: Jonjo O'Neill Jr.| T: J & A O'Neill| OR: 122| BF| D

10/1

Irish bumper scorer who won an Exeter novice and 21f Ludlow handicap over hurdles for new yard during the winter. Similar form when keeping on for third at Wincanton (21.3f) in April and feasible to think he hasn't reached his limit yet. Down markedly in trip.

Form: 551513-

Castel Gandolfo^b,t⁴²

Age: 5| Weight: 11-5| J: Jack Hogan⁽⁷⁾| T: F O'Brien| OR: 122

10/3

Successful twice over hurdles at around 2m during 2021 and filled runners-up spot on 4 separate occasions since, latterly in C&D summer Hurdle in July. Midfield back on Flat at Newbury in August and possibilities back over hurdles now.

Form: 2752-42

Stonific^p,t1³⁸⁷

Age: 9| Weight: 11-5| J: K Brogan| T: G Hanmer| OR: 122| CD

25/1

Lightly-raced in this sphere and caused a shock when getting up late to land the C&D Summer Hurdle in 2021 (from same mark). Ended time with David O'Meara with a creditable fourth at Sdegefield 12 months ago. Cheekpieces/tongue tie fitted for return/yard bow.

Form: 3F31/13-

Mandocello²⁸

Age: 6| Weight: 10-13| J: C Gethings| T: S Edmunds| OR: 116

4/1

Fairly useful Flat performer who landed pair of maiden/novice hurdles earlier this term prior to a creditable 4 lengths fourth of 11 on handicap debut at Cartmel (17.2f) in August. That was his first start for 7 weeks and he may come on a little more for that.

Form: 4/2114

Hiconic^t³²

Age: 5| Weight: 10-10| J: Kielan Woods| T: A M Hales| OR: 113| D

11/1

Missed all of last season yet, tongue tied/on back of wind op, fared better than previously this season when fourth in 6-runner Worcester handicap (2m) 32 days ago, making late headway. One to bear in mind from sliding mark.

Form: 22P/594

Appreciate^t⁸

Age: 4| Weight: 10-2| J: Mitchell Bastyan| T: M F Harris| OR: 107| D

12/1

Rattled off a quick-fire 4-timer over hurdles earlier this term and took further strides forward since in this sphere, rallying to lead dying strides at Newton Abbot (16.7f) 8 days ago. Faces a hike up in class now but he may not have reached his limit.

Form: 111221

Eagle's Realm^t³⁷

Age: 4| Weight: 10-2| J: C Brace| T: F O'Brien| OR: 106

9/1

Made frame on 5 of last 6 starts on Flat prior to opening hurdles account at Stratford (18.6f) in July and had plenty in hand when following at that venue 37 days ago. Another up markedly in grade but unlikely he's reached his ceiling yet.

Form: 358-11

Forecasts

Castel Gandolfo (10/3), Mandocello (4/1), Kihavah (4/1), Eagle's Realm (9/1), Judicial Law (10/1), Hiconic (11/1), Appreciate (12/1), Pisgah Pike (18/1), Snookered (22/1), Inca Prince (22/1), Stonific (25/1), Mr Coldstone (33/1)

Unsurprisingly competitive with the narrow vote in favour of CASTEL GANDOLFO. Runner-up over C&D on his penultimate start, he's best not judged too harshly on his subsequent run on the Flat and a better showing can be expected with his rider taking off a very handy 7 lb. Stonific, back from a break on debut for a new yard, and Mandocello head up the dangers, along with Appreciate.
