1/1

Encouraging return last year when runner-up at Newbury but unable to reach that level on both subsequent starts, 8 lengths third to Baaeed at Newmarket (8f) when last seen 12 months ago. Seems significant that his top yard are persevering with him so he's a major player.

Border Edge⁸⁸

Age: 3| Weight: 9-4| J: James Doyle| T: C Appleby

7/4

Shamardal gelding who didn't exactly make a debut full of promise but was green when seventh of 11 in minor event (11/2) at Doncaster (7f, good) on debut 3 months ago. Represents powerful connections and should take a step forward here.

Form: 7

200/1

Failed to beat a rival on both starts last year so he's best watched on return (has been gelded in interim).

Forecasts

Counsel (1/1), Border Edge (7/4), Super Chief (9/2), Lermontov (12/1), Irish Approach (28/1), Solar Prophet (66/1), Hopeforthebest (200/1)

COUNSEL clearly hasn't been the easiest to train but it seems significant that his top yard are persevering with him so he's fancied to open his account returning from 12 months off the track. It would be no surprise to see Border Edge leave his debut effort well behind so Charlie Appleby's charge is put forward as the main danger, ahead of Super Chief.
