Cheekpieces left and ran up to form when second of 7 at Chepstow last month. Respectable effort on the level 12 days later and this represents a slight ease in class back hurdling.

Didn't go on from a promising start over hurdles in the autumn in Ireland, and was pulled up starting out for this yard in a 20.5f Plumpton novice last time. Needs to get back on track now pitched into a handicap minus tongue tie.

Similar form in his qualifying runs and type to do better in handicaps granted a proper pace but his opening mark demands more.

Fairly useful Flat winner. Fourth on both completed starts in novice hurdles during the winter but suffered heavy defeat on handicap debut at Hereford. Tongue tie on.

Responded well when making a successful handicap debut over 2m at Southwell 3 weeks ago. Up 4 lb tackling a new trip but he warrants consideration.

Caught the eye when third of 13 in maiden hurdle at Taunton in January. Prominent in the betting switched to a handicap a month later but proved to be a disappointment.

Fair winner on the level in France and much more like it over hurdles when third in maiden company at Plumpton last month. Opening mark may underestimate him.

From the family of Time For Rupert. Has looked more of a longer-term prospect in his qualifying runs but no surprise were she to flourish in handicaps.

Cast aside a heavy defeat at Exeter when mid-field handicap debut back there last month (18.5f), possibly in need of the outing. Likely to last longer this time.

Fair form at up to 11f on the Flat in Ireland for Joseph O'Brien but little to get excited about over hurdles so far.

Long-standing maiden who failed to get home over 23f last month. Drop back in trip will suit in change of headgear but still easy-enough to look elsewhere.

Port Or Starboard (7/2), Noahthirtytwored (11/2), Presgrave (13/2), Time Bandit (13/2), Kapitaliste (15/2), Muy Bien (8/1), Pumpkin's Pride (17/2), Mamluk (12/1), Time For Bell (18/1), Social City (20/1), Valirann Gold (50/1)

Verdict

The handicapper has taken a big chance with MAMLUK's opening mark given his Flat form in France, and with a 4-y-o allowance also helping his cause, he looks the way to go. This is easier than some of the races Port Or Starboard has been contesting so he's of interest, along with Noahthirtytwored.
