Rather lost way for Dan Skelton but took a step back in right direction in first-time cheekpieces when third in handicap hurdle at Wincanton. Well held back chasing there since, however.

Low mileage point winner who landed 2m Bangor maiden hurdle. Managed to complete for first time in 4 starts when fourth on his second chase outing at Uttoxeter 4 weeks ago, albeit never dangerous.

Excellent start over fences when winning first 2 starts at up to 17f during the autumn. Unable to build on the good work without being disgraced since, though now only 1 lb above last winning mark.

Returned to form when accounting for 5 rivals under this rider at Ffos Las (2m) last month. Remains well handicapped despite going up 8 lb but was rather disappointing at Leicester on Friday.

Dual winner who proved expensive to follow for Dr Richard Newland. Sold for just £2,500 and didn't offer any significant encouragement after 17 months off at Ffos Las. Chase bow.

Overcame poor round of jumping to win at Catterick last winter and performed with credit in defeat since. However, not seen for 11 months and needed comeback run last season.

Forecasts

Crack Du Ninian (9/4), Billingsley (7/2), Discko Des Plages (4/1), Chazza (4/1), Antunes (13/2), Higgs (16/1)

Verdict

BILLINGSLEY had totally lost the plot, either not completing or failing to beat a rival, since the start of last season, but looked a different horse when taking advantage of his much-reduced mark under this rider at Ffos Las 6 weeks ago. He remains with loads of handicapping scope, but needs to put a lesser effort behind him. Crack du Ninian is edging back down to a winning mark so is next best.
