Made massive strides last season and scored most impressively in this off 7 lb lower. Ran well in Betfair Chase here on return and conditions are much more in his favour this time. Big run expected.
All stamina and resumed winning ways in Grand National Trial here (28.4f) last season. Proved he's as good as ever when runner-up in Rowland Meyrick on Boxing Day, though had a hard race. Up 2 lb.
Lightly raced and beaten a long way on return at Aintree 7 weeks ago, but on a good mark on pick of his form (won the Grade 2 Altcar at this meeting in 2020) and yard going well. Tongue strap back on.
Potentially on a good mark but probably not the force he once was at the age of 12, merely plugging on when fourth in the Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby on Boxing Day.
Quickly made up into a smart novice chaser last term and was going strongly when falling 4 out in Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury. Good second in Tommy Whittle over C&D since and big shout once again.
All the better for return when narrow winner at Doncaster (3m) last month, having to show stamina and guts. Still not fully exposed as a chaser and longer trip could suit. Headgear applied.
Took very well to fences last season when a dual 20f scorer. Faced very stiff task on return but back on track when third in Grade 3 handicap at Cheltenham on New Year's Day. Stamina to prove, though.
Won 2 novice events over fences last term and beaten only by an improving one over C&D on return. Set to go one better when race ended in luckless circumstances at Wetherby since. Can do better still.
Ended last term with 3m wins at Sandown and Perth and resumed with good third in Kelso handicap. Quickly back on track when second at Kempton but this much more competitive. 3 lb out of handicap.
Won the Tommy Whittle over C&D and Eider at Newcastle last term. Failed to fire in 3 starts this season, however, including in Tommy Whittle latest. 4 lb out of the weights and questions to answer.

Forecasts
Royale Pagaille (5/2), Remastered (4/1), Empire Steel (4/1), Sam Brown (8/1), Lord Du Mesnil (12/1), Alnadam (14/1), Fortescue (16/1), Kalooki (16/1), Lake View Lad (18/1), Sam's Adventure (66/1)
EMPIRE STEEL is an unexposed staying chaser with plenty to recommend him, shaping well on return and set to go one better before his race ended in luckless circumstances in the Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby, and he's taken to make amends despite being 3 lb out of the weights. Royale Pagaille bolted up in this last year and has his ideal ground again, while Remastered can win a big staying handicap.
