Happy 50th Birthday Birdie Novices' Hurdle (GBB Race)

Off time: 13:51 | Winning time: 5m 21.60s

Dalamoi²⁹

Age: 4| Weight: 11-5| J: Alan Johns| T: Tim Vaughan| C

9/4

Well-bred individual who confirmed bumper promise when making a winning start over hurdles in a 2m novice at this course last month. Longer trip will suit, and he's up to defying a penalty.

Form: 2-51

Lydford Lad³⁹

Age: 6| Weight: 11-5| J: Nick Scholfield| T: Jack Barber| OR: 118| CD

7/2

Showed ability on only start in bumpers and left his hurdling debut form well behind when landing an 8-runner novice over C&D 39 days ago. Penalty makes life tougher, but he could step forward again.

Form: 5/P5-1

Boston Joe³⁶

Age: 5| Weight: 10-12| J: D A Jacob| T: Miss R Curtis

14/1

Placed in points, but has looked more of a longer-term project under Rules to this point.

Form: U/38-5

Bowtogreatness³⁹

Age: 5| Weight: 10-12| J: Kielan Woods| T: B Pauling

5/2

Fair form in bumpers and upsides Lydford Lad when falling 3 out over C&D on hurdling debut. Hard to know how things would have panned out but he's 7 lb better off with that rival, now.

Form: 523-F

Crossing The Bar²¹

Age: 4| Weight: 10-12| J: Ben Jones| T: P Hobbs & J White

10/3

Fairly useful on the Flat for Sir Michael Stoute and showed aptitude for hurdling when fourth in novice at Lingfield 3 weeks ago. Plenty of improvement on the cards.

Form: 4

Just Loose Change⁴²

Age: 4| Weight: 10-12| J: James Bowen| T: Nicky Martin

40/1

Hint of ability in bumper at Newbury 42 days ago but not enough to make him of serious interest on this first go at hurdling.

Form: 8

Meechlands Magic²⁹

Age: 5| Weight: 10-12| J: Jack Tudor⁽³⁾| T: Mrs D A Hamer

100/1

Stepped up on his previous exploits in bumpers on much more testing ground than previously when fourth at Newton Abbot in November but was too keen on hurdling debut in C&D novice last time.

Form: 6648

Pageant Material⁴²

Age: 4| Weight: 10-5| J: Isabel Williams⁽⁵⁾| T: Evan Williams

50/1

Just a hint of promise in a bumper and novice hurdle to date. Longer trip should help, but he appeals as more of a slow-burner.

Form: 274

Forecasts

Dalamoi (9/4), Bowtogreatness (5/2), Crossing The Bar (10/3), Lydford Lad (7/2), Boston Joe (14/1), Just Loose Change (40/1), Pageant Material (50/1), Meechlands Magic (100/1)

DALAMOI asserted in impressive fashion when scoring at the first attempt over hurdles here last month and, with this longer trip promising to suit, he gets the vote ahead of Crossing The Bar who shaped well on his first go in this sphere. Lydford Lad also warrants consideration.
