Pertemps Network Novices' Limited Handicap Chase (GBB Race)

Off time: 13:53 | Winning time: 5m 41.70s

Torigni⁴⁰

Age: 5| Weight: 11-8| J: D A Jacob| T: H Whittington| OR: 134

16/5

Useful hurdler who signed off last season with a success in a handicap at Ayr, but struggled at Chepstow on reappearance. Should strip fitter for that, and he has the physique for chasing.

Form: 1/3331-0

The Edgar Wallace^t²⁴³

Age: 6| Weight: 11-6| J: David Bass| T: K Bailey & M Nicholls| OR: 132

7/2

Bumper winner who boasted a progressive profile over hurdles last season, scoring in a novice at Uttoxeter when last seen 8 months ago. Very much the type to take to chasing.

Form: 321/421-

Orrisdale^p²⁸

Age: 7| Weight: 11-3| J: Jonjo O'Neill Jr.| T: J & A O'Neill| OR: 129| BF

8/1

Bumper/hurdle winner who has bettered that form since sent chasing and was almost certain to open his account in this sphere when coming down at the last at Newton Abbot a month ago. Big player.

Form: B4233-F

Sam Barton^p1¹⁹

Age: 6| Weight: 11-2| J: Thomas Bellamy| T: Miss E C Lavelle| OR: 128

2/1

Fairly useful hurdle winner who has long since appealed as the type to make a better chaser. Might have needed his debut in this sphere at Ascot recently, so improvement on the cards in cheekpieces.

Form: 3/5214-4

Hardy Du Seuil²⁸

Age: 4| Weight: 10-8| J: G Sheehan| T: Jamie Snowden| OR: 129

7/2

Fair juvenile hurdler in France and opened his account at the second attempt over fences in a match at Carlisle 28 days ago. This is tougher, but his 4-y-o allowance counts for plenty.

Form: 2281-F1

Forecasts

Sam Barton (2/1), Torigni (16/5), The Edgar Wallace (7/2), Hardy Du Seuil (7/2), Orrisdale (8/1)

SAM BARTON's jumping wasn't quite up to scratch when he disappointed on his chasing/seasonal reappearance, but he's now fitted with cheekpieces and should have learned from that experience, so he's worth chancing given that he's every inch a chaser on looks. The Edgar Wallace, debuting in this sphere, looks an intriguing contender, while the 4-y-o Hardy du Seuil is another one worth noting.
