Winning start to last season over hurdles at Uttoxeter. Fine fourth in the Welsh National in January and, though below par sole subsequent start (wind op since), he's of strong interest back hurdling.

Cosy winner of a 3-runner Sedgefield handicap chase on return last season prior to finishing fifth in the Welsh National. Well held final start of last term, though, and opposable back in this sphere.

Improved to get off the mark in 21f Ascot novice in January. Creditable third of 15 in a Grade 3 Sandown handicap (19.8f) on final start of last term and he promises to be suited by this stiffer test.

Multiple hurdles winner for Willie Mullins in 2017, including twice in graded company. However, poor in 3 runs for Paul Nicholls last season and plenty to prove on this debut for new connections.

Scored on handicap debut at Uttoxeter (23.3f) last December. Runner-up next 2 starts and though below par at Kelso on final run of last season, this lightly-raced 8-y-o is not discounted.

Resumed winning ways back from a break in a handicap hurdle at Bangor in July. Drop to 21f in a slowly-run race at Warwick counted against him last time and possibilities back up in trip for new yard.

Point/novice hurdle winner who ran well in 21.3f Wincanton handicap in January. However, jumping issues resurfaced both subsequent starts and he'll need to brush up in that department here.

Forecasts

Gladiateur Allen (9/4), Take Your Time (7/2), Eyeofthescorpion (9/2), Acey Milan (5/1), Legends Gold (8/1), Captain Drake (9/1), Mr Harp (11/1), Colorado Doc (14/1), Looks Like Power (25/1), Prime Venture (40/1), Fabulous Saga (66/1)

Verdict

This step up in trip promises to suit GLADIATEUR ALLEN, who did well as a novice last term and it's likely that there's better to come this season. The lightly-raced 5-y-o gets the nod in this competitive handicap. Captain Drake won on his reappearance off this mark last season and he looks dangerous, while Eyeofthescorpion, Legends Gold and Mr Harp are others to consider.

  1. GLADIATEUR ALLEN (FR)
  2. CAPTAIN DRAKE (IRE)
  3. EYEOFTHESCORPION (IRE)
