Didn't shape at all badly when third on Rules debut in a Plumpton maiden hurdle in April, but well held both completed starts since, including on recent handicap bow. Cheekpieces added.

Narrow winner of C&D novices' handicap in April and went close back here 6 days later. Below par since, but he's edging back down the weights and is one to consider with conditions to suit.

Bettered previous hurdles efforts on debut for Ben Pauling when third of 8 off 1 lb higher at Bangor (23, good to soft) in July. Not so good at Hexham next time, though, and improvement needed.

Runner-up in a C&D seller on final run for Milton Harris in April, but well held both subsequent starts for new yard the following month and absent since (undergone wind surgery in the interim).

Runner-up sole start between the flags and best effort yet in this sphere when second in a 3-runner Ludlow novice (21.2f, good to firm) last time. More needed now pitched into a handicap.

Has found some improvement switched to handicaps the last twice, third over 2m at Southwell and Worcester. This step up in trip promises to suit and he's one of the more interesting contenders.

Has performed respectably since switched to handicaps, finishing fourth of 10 in first-time cheekpieces/first run following a wind op at Huntingdon (19.6f, good to soft) recently. Place possibilities.

Much improved for this yard, hitting the crossbar in Fontwell handicaps either side of last month's breakthrough success at Newton Abbot. Likely to be thereabouts once more.

Well held in a bumper/maiden hurdles and he's hard to warm to on this handicap debut.

Has largely struggled since winning a pair of handicaps last summer, but there were more encouraging signs at Market Rasen (18.6f, good) last time and his mark continues to slide.

Fairly useful on the Flat in France, winner of 6 races up to 1m. Has some decent pieces of form to his name since switched to hurdles, but recent efforts have lacked spark.

Left previous form well behind under more positive tactics on handicap bow at Huntingdon (19.6f, good to soft), making all for a cosy success. 6 lb rise fair and big player if able to back that up.

Forecasts

Soul Icon (11/4), Snug As A Bug (11/2), Norley (6/1), Rock On Tommy (7/1), Eclair Des Sablons (17/2), Good Bye (11/1), Nachi Falls (14/1), Isle Of Aron (16/1), Getaway Cory (18/1), Belle Jour (25/1), Family Pot (28/1), Oneonechop (33/1), Carrig Coch (80/1)

Verdict

Preference is for SNUG AS A BUG, who hasn't finished out of the first two in three starts since joining Susan Gardner, and a reproduction of her latest effort at Fontwell would probably suffice here. Isle of Aron shapes as though this stiffer test will serve him well and he is next on the list ahead of recent Huntingdon winner Soul Icon and Eclair des Sablons.

  2. ISLE OF ARON
  3. SOUL ICON
