Front-runner who was successful 3 times in juvenile hurdles last term, including twice at Warwick in February. Second in 2m Huntingdon novice when last seen and should be in the mix if ready to roll.

Dominant in small fields at Plumpton and Wincanton on final 2 starts of last term. Clearly talented, but will face competition for the lead here and mark for handicap debut in this sphere looks tough.

French bumper winner who did little wrong switched to hurdles last season, culminating in a valuable 2m Sandown handicap success in April. More needed up 8 lb, but couldn't rule out all the same.

Winning start for Paul Nicholls over C&D at this meeting last year and also ended 2020/21 campaign on a successful note, readily landing the odds in a Newton Abbot novice. Likely he has more to offer.

Creditable fourth in Ascot handicap won by Herbiers in March (beaten 4 lengths and now meets that rival on 12 lb better terms) and successful at Catterick and Ludlow either side of that. Claims.

Useful Flat performer in Germany and impressive start over hurdles at Leicester last November. Misfired at Doncaster when last seen, but mark for this handicap bow looks fair and she merits respect.

Improved when making a winning handicap bow at Musselburgh on final run of last term, proving 6 lengths too good for the re-opposing Progressive. Much more on his plate up 10 lb in this stronger race.

Winner of 3 of his first 5 starts over hurdles last season before struggling in a Kempton Grade 2. Not entirely disgraced in Ascot handicap won by Herbiers in March, but he clearly has work to do.

Opened hurdles account over 16.8f at Newton Abbot during the spring, and improved when making all for an emphatic success over the same C&D in August. 6 lb rise fair, but this is much tougher.

Landed a pair of juvenile hurdles last autumn and positive start to this season when third upped to 2½m at Perth. Drop back in trip looks a good move and he's not without each-way hope.

Flat winner who was successful on hurdles bow at Doncaster in December. Rather disappointing on the whole thereafter, though, and recent spin on the Flat following a wind op wasn't overly encouraging.

Forecasts

Hell Red (5/2), Cabot Cliffs (11/2), Elham Valley (8/1), Herbiers (8/1), Casa Loupi (17/2), Progressive (10/1), Megan (10/1), State Crown (11/1), Tinnahalla (11/1), Caldwell (11/1), Orchestral Rain (18/1), Pyramid Place (25/1)

Verdict

Paul Nicholls has saddled the winner of this race seven times since 2007 and HELL RED could be another for the yard. He surely has more to offer and the dry forecast is a plus given that his best efforts last season were on good/good to firm. Tinnahalla has a good chance of reversing March's Ascot placings with Herbiers on these revised terms and is feared most ahead of Megan and Cabot Cliffs.
