Confirmed debut promise when landing a 1m Chelmsford novice last month. By no means disgraced in a French Group 3 since, but that wasn't a strong race for the grade and he looks up against it here.

Overcame greenness when mastering Modern Games close home on debut in 7f Leicester novice. Meets that rival on 9 lb worse terms here, but he's clearly very promising and needs taking seriously.

Progressive colt who completed the 4-timer when narrowly seeing off Ever Given and 18 others in a valuable 6.5f sales race at Doncaster recently. This is tougher, but he shouldn't be underestimated.

Overhauled close home by Cresta at Leicester last month, but 9 lb better off with that rival now and subsequently improved when landing a 7f Doncaster nursery in good style. Further progress likely.

Went one better than on debut when easily landing the odds in a Ffos Las maiden (7.4f). Not short of potential, but a significant jolt of improvement will be needed if he's to emerge on top here.

Longchamp debut winner in June and subsequently placed twice in Group company at Deauville, latterly finishing second in the 6f Prix Morny. Very much the one to beat now upped to 7f.

Verdict

French-raider TRIDENT sets a very good standard judged on his Prix Morny effort and should prove hard to beat with further improvement on the cards. Cresta got the better of Modern Games on debut at Leicester, but the latter was impressive at Doncaster next time and resumes rivalry on 9 lb better terms. The Godolphin colt is second choice. Ribhi and Harrow add extra spice to a fascinating contest.
