Posted a good fourth in Golden Mile at Glorious Goodwood last summer. However, he has failed to beat a rival in trio of starts for new yard and significant drop in grade needs to have positive effect.

Three time winner who was in good nick on all-weather earlier this year. Latest Thirsk display over 7f has to go down as disappointing but no great surprise to see him bounce back.

Isn't the easiest to catch right these days but probably had too much use made of him from a wide draw when below form at York (7f) 2 weeks ago. This less demanding and plum draw to work from. Player.

Losing run stretches back to 2019 but did run best race for present stable when third at Ayr (7.2f) on penultimate start in May. Found nothing when last of 9 at Beverley since and record is patchy.

Ended last term with a creditable third over 10f at Bath in September. Acquired for 8,000 gns thereafter but yet to match previous best in 2 starts for new yard. Drop in trip a plus at least.

Resumed winning ways at Lingfield (1m) in January prior to a trio of creditable in-the-frame efforts. Well held on each of his last 2 runs though, and still to prove his effectiveness on turf.

Fair gelding who scored twice at up to 8.6f last year. Plenty of good efforts in defeat since the turn of the year but no easy task on these terms. Others preferred.

Likeable veteran who, back in headgear, ran best race of present campaign when just touched off in a 6f handicap here last month, a tardy start not helping his cause. Claims despite wide draw.

Not the most reliable but showed a good attitude when resuming winning ways at Kempton (1m) in February. Typical mixed bag on AW/turf subsequently and expected to find a few too good.

Forecasts

Sir Maximilian (15/8), Firmament (2/1), Alminoor (9/2), Willie John (11/1), Three Saints Bay (12/1), Never Said Nothing (14/1), Canal Rocks (33/1), Roller (40/1), Rogue Tide (50/1)

Verdict

FIRMAMENT has been below his best this term but he had excuses at York last time and, operating from the plum draw/down significantly in class, he's fancied to be seen in a much better light here. Sir Maximilian holds sound claims on these terms and rates a big threat despite a less-than-ideal draw. Alminoor can do best of the remainder.
