Flat winner who opened hurdles account at the second attempt at Newton Abbot (16.8f, good). Lost little caste in defeat in a Kelso novice next time and another bold show anticipated.

Fairly useful bumper winner in 2020 and also placed 3 times on the Flat. Wind op ahead of encouraging return/hurdles debut second for new yard in a first-time tongue strap at Huntingdon (15.8f, good).

Of little account on the Flat and was beating a retreat when exiting 3 out on hurdles debut for new yard at Ludlow.

In the frame in all 4 bumpers and clear of the rest when finding just one too good on hurdles debut at Southwell (15.8f, soft). In good hands and he has to enter calculations.

Fairly useful on the Flat at up to 1½m, winning 4 times in that sphere. Could be the type to make his mark over hurdles, but this looks pretty warm race.

Little show in maidens on Flat in 2016 for Gary Moore (subsequently gelded). Hard to warm to on this hurdles debut following a mammoth absence.

Successful on the Flat in April, but well held on latest start in that sphere and will need to leave his previous hurdles efforts well behind if he's to make an impact here.

Has shown ability in bumpers, creditable second at Worcester (2m, good to soft) last time. Still, will need to raise his game now switched to hurdles with the aid of a first-time hood.

Low-grade maiden on the Flat for Joseph O'Brien, runner-up twice over 1½m on the Flat at Dundalk this year. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler Homer, but opposable on hurdles debut for new yard.

Trailboss (15/8), Gregor (2/1), Beholden (3/1), Thorn (11/1), Battle March (16/1), Renardeau (22/1), Port Lockroy (40/1), Exmoor Beast (66/1), Spiritus Mundi (100/1), Squire Hockey (150/1), Endean (200/1)

Verdict

BEHOLDEN's jumping was far from foot-perfect on debut in this sphere at Huntingdon, but it was an encouraging effort nonetheless and the experience certainly won't be wasted on him. In the hope that he negotiates the obstacles with greater verve here, Jamie Snowden's charge earns the vote ahead of Gregor, who also found just one too good on his hurdles debut, and the penalised Trailboss.

  1. BEHOLDEN
  2. GREGOR (FR)
  3. TRAILBOSS (IRE)
