Useful at his best and best effort during winless 2020/21 season came when second in Cross Country event (30f) at Cheltenham in November. Recent efforts not so good, well held at Newton Abbot in May.

Durable sort who scored twice at Doncaster last term and went in again in good style at Kelso (27.8f) early last month. Found it tougher over C&D since and present mark does demand more.

Successful in 3m Southwell handicap chase in November but that was a standout effort over fences, tailed off some way out at Cheltenham (25f) last month. Needs to show benefit of that run to feature.

Dual winner last season at Hexham and Kelso and stepped up on return effort in April when finding only Captain Tom Cat too strong over 19.9f here last month. Considered back up in trip.

Eased in weights/refitted with blinkers belatedly added to sole chase success at Ludlow (25.5f) 17 days ago, albeit in a race that rather fell apart. 7 lb higher mark makes things tougher.

Dual hurdles winner who finally got off the mark over fences in 3m handicap chase at Carlisle in October. Below par since, including on back of 5 months off at Ayr recently but mark not beyond him.

Good fourth on return/yard debut over hurdles in April and backed that up when second over fences at Fakenham (29f). Shade underwhelming at Stratford but bounce back not ruled out in refitted blinkers

Forecasts

Empire De Maulde (7/2), Flying Verse (4/1), Boughtbeforelunch (9/2), Mance Rayder (9/2), Bbold (11/2), The Tourard Man (6/1), Ocean Cove (15/2), Reve (9/1), Court Dreaming (11/1), Beau Du Brizais (12/1)

Verdict

A winner at Stratford last summer, BBOLD ran right up to his best on the back of 6 months off when third at Ludlow (23.8f) in April. He's now refitted with cheekpieces, and this sort of mark looks within range, so he gets the nod to come out on top. This is competitive however, with Empire de Maulde, Flying Verse and Boughtbeforelunch heading up the dangers.

  1. BBOLD (IRE)
  2. EMPIRE DE MAULDE (FR)
  3. FLYING VERSE
