Snapped a losing run when landing a small-field event at Wolverhampton (1¾m) 17 days ago. Up 2 lb in a stronger contest but Saffie Osborne's 5 lb claim is a help.

Consistent sort who had an excuse (very slowly away) when well below par on his Newmarket reappearance. He's not the type to stay down for long.

Useful on Flat in Ireland back in 2018. Just modest over hurdles for this yard but has shown he retains a decent level of ability back on the Flat this spring. Others still preferred, though.

Eleven runs since last win in 2016 but he did bounce back to form returned to turf for the first in a few years when runner-up at Newmarket 23 days ago. Has gone up 3 lb, though.

Winning handicap debut over 1½m last November. Has returned with a couple of solid in-frame efforts over that trip and this close relation of Big Orange has the potential for better now tackling 2m.

Snapped a losing run in a 4-runner race at Doncaster (2m) at the start of May but it was a weak affair and he'll need more to overcome a 4 lb higher mark here.

Has failed to add to 2-y-o debut success, but proved reliable in handicaps last term and has performed with credit when hitting the frame on his last 2 starts (fourth to East Asia over C&D latterly).

Forecasts

East Asia (7/4), Lydford (3/1), Dancing Harry (11/2), Call My Bluff (7/1), True Destiny (15/2), To Be Wild (11/1), Ship Of The Fen (11/1), Smart Champion (12/1), Hiroshima (14/1), Clongowes (33/1)

Verdict

Given the stamina in his pedigree there's a strong possibility LYDFORD will benefit from this step up to 2m so this lightly-raced 4-y-o gets the nod ahead of East Asia, who is thriving for his new trainer and looks sure to make a bold bid to add to last month's C&D success. Quickish ground would be a bit of a worry for Call My Bluff but he is another who is very much going the right way.

  1. LYDFORD
  2. EAST ASIA (IRE)
  3. CALL MY BLUFF (IRE)
