Useful on the Flat for Ed Walker and decent efforts when switched to handicaps in this sphere during 2019/20 campaign. One to note in the betting back from a 14-month absence.

Three-time Flat winner who landed a maiden hurdle at Bangor in June 2019. Hasn't really threatened since, though, and looks vulnerable despite the handicapper's mercy. Yard also saddles Ragamuffin.

Winless following 9 attempts in this sphere and while his latest third off a 2 lb higher mark at Southwell was a decent effort, he again looked rather awkward under pressure.

Well held in a bumper and trio of novice hurdles to date, not showing enough to suggest that he'll play a leading role on this handicap debut. Tongue strap enlisted.

Fairly useful at best on the Flat for Mark Johnston. Best effort yet in this sphere when third at Fontwell in April, but needs to bounce back following a disappointing display at Plumpton next time.

Placed on a couple of occasions off higher marks than this in September/October, but he was safely held when returning from a break here last month.

Long-standing maiden who wasn't beaten far when fourth of 11 off a 6 lb higher mark at Wetherby in March. Poor effort at Plumpton since, but he's largely reliable and isn't without each-way hope.

Got his act together following a wind op last year, winner of heavy-ground handicaps over this C&D and at Bangor during the winter. Decent fourth at Southwell last time and he needs considering.

Bumper winner in 2017 and bettered previous form in this sphere when third in a 6-runner C&D handicap last time. Still, another sizeable step forward needed if she's to make a serious impact.

Flat winner who was bang there when falling at the last on Ludlow chase debut in November. However, well held when unseating at Fakenham next time and he's 0-23 in this sphere.

Opened hurdles account over this C&D off an 8 lb higher mark last March, but it's been pretty much downhill all the way since.

Failed to justify market support on sole start for Tom Symonds in March, but showed more when fifth of 10 at Market Rasen last month, having again attracted support. Now tried in a tongue strap.

No more than a fair maiden on the Flat and he's offered precious little in 3 starts over hurdles. 7 lb 'wrong' now pitched into a handicap in this sphere.

Forecasts

Ragamuffin (5/1), Garbanzo (5/1), Salamanca School (6/1), Dream Machine (6/1), Billy The Squid (7/1), Easkey Lad (17/2), Vanderbilt (10/1), Out By Six (10/1), Timassini (14/1), First Destination (18/1), Jaunty Express (28/1), Never A Word (40/1), Rubheira (100/1), Little Tipsy (100/1), You Owe Me (125/1)

Verdict

A C&D winner on his sole previous visit here in November, RAGAMUFFIN gets the nod in a wide-open race. He shaped pretty well back from an 8-week break off a 2 lb higher mark at Southwell and he appears pretty versatile ground-wise. Stablemate Dream Machine has also been given a helping hand by the assessor, but bigger threats may be posed by the relatively unexposed pair Out By Six and Garbanzo.

  1. RAGAMUFFIN (IRE)
  2. OUT BY SIX (FR)
  3. GARBANZO (IRE)
