Promise in a couple of AW bumpers prior to making it third time lucky on turf debut at Fontwell (13.7f, good to firm). Going back up in trip won't be an issue, but more needed under a penalty here.

£45,000 3-y-o, Fame And Glory gelding. Dam, 2m hurdle winner, half-sister to useful hurdler (stayed 2½m) Big Eared Fran. Probably best watched on debut, unless the market suggests otherwise.

£13,000 3-y-o, Sholokhov gelding. Yard 0-18 in bumpers in recent years, which doesn't augur well where this 5-y-o is concerned.

€29,000 3-y-o, Full of Gold gelding. Half-brother to French 17f hurdle winner Chikname du Potier. Dam unraced half-sister to useful chaser (stayed 25f) Jimmy Tennis. One to note in the betting.

Debut winner at Lingfield before creditable efforts at Newbury and Cheltenham this spring. This is much easier than last time and she's the one to beat.

Just one completion from 5 starts between the flags, but there were positives to glean from Rules debut fourth in 2m Hexham bumper last month. Hood/tongue strap now added.

No appeal on paper and readily passed over on debut.

Haafhd gelding. Dam, maiden over hurdles, 11f-13f winner on Flat. Will only be of interest on debut here if the market vibes are notably upbeat.

Sixties Icon mare. Dam 2m-2½m hurdle/chase winner. Hooded for this debut, which is somewhat disconcerting.

£36,000 3-y-o. Dam, 17f-21f hurdle/chase winner, half-sister to smart hurdler/very smart chaser (15f-2¾m winner in France) Saint Goustan Blue. By far the most interesting newcomer on show here.

Forecasts

Pop The Champagne (3/1), Licia St Goustan (4/1), Ceolwulf (9/2), Radetzky March (11/2), Independence (15/2), Goldie's Lovingit (9/1), Haltwhistle (10/1), Pop Mistress (12/1), Bandsman Rice (22/1), Fitz The Brief (80/1), Tis But A Scratch (80/1)

Verdict

The vote goes to POP THE CHAMPAGNE, who performed with credit in a Class 2 mares' bumper at Cheltenham last month and now finds herself in calmer waters. Radetzky March's Rules debut fourth at Hexham was fairly encouraging, but a bigger threat may be posed by likely-looking newcomer Licia St Goustan. Last month's Fontwell winner Independence looks vulnerable under a penalty.

  1. POP THE CHAMPAGNE (FR)
  2. LICIA ST GOUSTAN (FR)
  3. RADETZKY MARCH (IRE)
