Bright Melody^p⁶⁵

Age: 4| Weight: 9-10| J: W Buick| T: C Appleby| OR: 104| D

4/1

Runner-up on January's reappearance at Meydan and built on that when going one place better at the same venue a month later (9f). Lightly raced for a 4-y-o and he should be very competitive again.

Form: 3037-21

Bell Rock¹⁹⁶

Age: 5| Weight: 9-9| J: William Carver⁽⁵⁾| T: A M Balding| OR: 103| C

13/2

Didn't do a great deal wrong in big-field handicaps last term after making a winning reappearance in a 1m handicap at this venue. Clearly very capable fresh and mark is within reach.

Form: 6/16330-

(8)

Maydanny²²⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 9-6| J: Jim Crowley| T: C & M Johnston| OR: 100

9/2

Back on the up in no uncertain terms when landing 9.9f handicap at Glorious Goodwood in July. York run easy to forgive but ended campaign with a disappointing effort at Newbury.

Form: 175106-

(6)

Dubai Legacy^p⁶⁵

Age: 5| Weight: 9-2| J: L Dettori| T: S bin Suroor| OR: 96| C

12/1

Doesn't look completely straightforward but broke on terms in a refitted visor and showed more when third in 7f handicap at Meydan in February. Cheekpieces now on up in trip.

Form: 063-003

(2)

Graphite³⁵

Age: 7| Weight: 9-1| J: Louis Steward| T: T Kent| OR: 95| D

80/1

Smart miler in France for Andre Fabre in 2019. Missed all of last year and dropped away in the Lincoln on debut for new connections. This will reveal more.

Form: 32522/0

(4)

Starcat^t²²⁴

Age: 4| Weight: 8-11| J: James Doyle| T: H Morrison| OR: 91

7/2

Looked a very useful prospect when making a winning debut on the AW in 2019. With that in mind, last year was disappointing, but he wouldn't be the first to get back on track as a 4-y-o.

Form: 1/70549-

(1)

Overwrite⁷

Age: 4| Weight: 8-9| J: F Norton| T: C & M Johnston| OR: 89| C

9/1

Bagged the rail and made all in a 1m handicap here last month. Ridden differently when third at Ripon last week and looks vulnerable to less-exposed sorts.

Form: 05-0213

(10)

Mascat¹⁶

Age: 4| Weight: 8-9| J: Laura Pearson⁽⁵⁾| T: R M Beckett| OR: 89| C

5/1

Maiden winner here at 2 yrs and largely creditable efforts in handicaps at up to 1½m last season. Kept on well for second at Ripon a fortnight ago under this rider but nudged up 2 lb for that.

Form: 3323-92

(3)

Al Muffrih^t⁴⁹

Age: 6| Weight: 8-8| J: M Dwyer| T: S C Williams| OR: 88

33/1

Respectable efforts this year but winless since 2019 and bit of a surprise if he snaps that losing run in a race as competitive as this back on turf.

Form: 4-44440

(9)

The Gill Brothers^t¹³

Age: 5| Weight: 8-7| J: David Egan| T: S C Williams| OR: 87

40/1

Lightly raced on turf and caught the eye in a couple of AW runs this spring, pulling hard and keeping on in messy Chelmsford race. Disappointing at Newbury, however.

Form: 296-430

Forecasts

Starcat (7/2), Bright Melody (4/1), Maydanny (9/2), Mascat (5/1), Bell Rock (13/2), Overwrite (9/1), Dubai Legacy (12/1), Al Muffrih (33/1), The Gill Brothers (40/1), Graphite (80/1)

BELL ROCK retains scope from this sort of mark and a winning reappearance at the track last season confirms he's very capable fresh. He could be the answer to what is a useful handicap, with Bright Melody and Starcat feared most.
